Luke Donald Retains PGA Championship

Luke Donald has gone back to the top of the world rankings after retaining the PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The Englishman carded a four under par round of 68 to finish on fifteen under, four shots ahead of compatriot Justin Rose and Scotland's Paul Lawrie.

Rose began the day two shots off the lead, but was unable to close the gap and carded a final round 70 to finish in a share of second place with Lawrie, who shot 66.

Donald has joined Sir Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie as the only players to successfully defend the European Tour's flagship event.

More importantly, he has regained the world number one ranking from Rory McIlroy, who missed the cut.

Donald will now turn his attention to the US Open in San Francisco which starts on June 14th.
