Manchester City remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, but come up against a new look Leicester City side this weekend. Don’t think this is a nailed on three points for the leaders.

The Foxes have won and drawn against Everton and Stoke respectively since Claude Puel was appointed as the successor to previous manager Craig Shakespeare. Whilst City have won their last 16 consecutive games, many believe that Pep Guardiola’s men will not be able to last the entire league season unbeaten, never mind the entire season in all competitions.

Last season, in their title defence campaign, Leicester finished in 12th position, but not before league-winning, odds-defying Claudio Ranieri was sacked. Now, even his replacement Shakespeare, who had initially seemed to be a respectable candidate and was getting more out of his players, has faced the axe.

This season, Puel sees his King Power outfit currently sitting in 12th position once more. However, with the Premier League table so tight at the bottom, the French coach knows that a loss against high flying Manchester City could see his side demoted to 17th in the table, depending on the results around them.

Leicester need points, and fast. But they are fast. As a counter attacking team, the Foxes are one of the best in the division. Witnessed most effectively in their 2015/16 title winning year, they have the capacity to be defensively solid and hit teams hard and fast on the counter.

It is something that Guardiola is yet to truly face this term. Of course, the Citizens have had to face several sides who have been compelled to play very deep in an attempt to deny their star-studded host goals. However, City have only failed to score in 90 minutes against one team thus far in 2017/18 – against Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

Puel will know that in order to get anything from this game, he will have to set up in a not so dissimilar fashion from Ranieri. Against City in the Premier League champions season, Leicester held them 0-0 at the Etihad and beat them 3-1 at home. Last year, in Guardiola’s first season at the helm, he suffered a 4-2 defeat at the King Power Stadium, because Leicester were not afraid to attack the Blues.

Of all the opponents that Guardiola’s team have faced this season, Liverpool were arguably the most threatening until the contentious dismissal of Sadio Mane. They were fearless in attack, full of pace and, had they been more clinical, may have won the game.

With the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, Demarai Gray, Ben Chilwell and co, the Foxes really do have the pace to hurt City on the counter attack.
