Manchester United are considering installing gender neutral toilets at Old Trafford in a bid to make the matchday experience more ‘welcoming and inclusive’.

Should United implement the plan they would be the first Premier League club to introduce the facility.

The topic was brought up by a fan at the September meeting of the Fans’ Forum where club officials were asked if it would be possible for the toilets to be installed at the ground.

United’s head of security Jim Liggett said, “It’s something we are looking at as we are keen to ensure that Old Trafford continues to be welcoming and inclusive to all supporters; I will keep you posted regarding progress.

“Our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is important in everything that we do and we’re constantly working with key stakeholders, including Stonewall, on such topics.”

Last November, Swansea City gave fans the option of being identified as gender neutral on tickets.

The club have also announced plans to install ‘high-security hostile vehicle mitigation bollards’ to improve security at the stadium.

The anti-terror devices, designed to prevent attacks by vehicles used as weapons, will be installed before 2019.

The club will also continue to suspend matchday train services which, until December 2017, allowed fans to disembark at a platform behind the South Stand.
