Paul Pogba is wanted by Barcelona stars as he looks to join international team-mates Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele by moving to Spain.

Senior players at Barcelona such as Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique think that Pogba’s qualities would improve the club’s ability to challenge in modern football.

Pogba’s pace and power are well regarded, and the Barca dressing room think that his strength is something that would add an extra dimension to the current side, and current manager Ernesto Valverde also wants the World Cup winner at his disposal.

However, scouts at the club are far from unanimous in their desire to bring the 25-year-old to Catalonia, the Daily Mail report. Some believe he is not suited to the short passing style that the club made famous. His risky approach to the game is at odds to the focus on possession that they stress at all levels of the club.

As well as doubts over Pogba’s suitability is concern that the club simply cannot afford to sign him and meet his wage demands. United would want at least £89 million they paid Juventus for the player, and probably an offer well in excess of that, after they turned down a £50m-plus-players deal earlier this summer.

Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola would expect a significant cut for facilitating any transfer, and the player himself could command wages of at least £300,000 a week.

Brazilian international Neymar has been linked with a return from Paris Saint-Germain throughout the season, and may prove a more attractive transfer target than Pogba.
