Paul Pogba admits he is ready to quit Manchester United for 'a new challenge'

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has revealed he is ready to quit the club, saying it "could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else".

The Frenchman is keen to move to Real Madrid to work with coach Zinedine Zidane, and has also been linked with a return to his former club Juventus.

Pogba's time at Manchester United has coincided with some insipid performances on the pitch and organisational turmoil at the club. His performances last season were widely criticised, although he still earned a place in the Professional Footballers' Association team of the year.

"Like you said, there is a lot of talking and a lot of thinking as well," said Pogba, 26, who joined United for a then-world record transfer free of £89.3million in August 2016.

"For me I have been for three years in Manchester and have been doing great; some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody. Like everywhere else.

"After this season and everything that happened this season, with my season being my best season as well... I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else."

Pogba's future has been the subject of intense scrutiny for months. He told United he wanted to quit for Barcelona in the summer of 2018, but the club were insistent he was not for sale. The spat went public when Pogba aired his frustrations at United's playing style under Jose Mourinho, and he was subsequently told he would not captain the club again.

Pogba's desire to quit has only been heightened by the club's failure to qualify for the Champions League last season and it is believed that his agent Mino Raiola has already held talks with Real over a possible transfer.

It is believed United might be willing to listen to offers of about £160million for Pogba but it is unlikely that Real would be able to sanction that kind of outlay given they have already spent is little evidence to suggest the Madrid giants could afford such an outlay given they have already spent £90million on Eden Hazard, £54million on Luka Jovic, £45million on Eder Militao, £43million on Ferland Mendy and £40million on Rodrygo.
