As Jose Mourinho is fired by Chelsea after a tumultuous start to the season, Betfair customers have been backing Manchester United as the next club for the ex-Blues manager.

Michael Bowers, Football Trader at Betfair, said: “With news breaking this afternoon of Chelsea sacking Mourinho and reportedly installing Guus Hiddink as an interim replacement, all eyes are now on where Jose will go next. The market has been incredibly popular over the past couple of hours with two customers placing £500 at 7/2 on Mourinho to manage Manchester United just three minutes after the Portuguese was officially released.

“Louis van Gaal has been very well backed in the next manager to leave market and was 2/1 behind Jose before the market was suspended today.

“Customers are also backing Bayern Munich at 4/1 to be Jose’s next project, after Pep Guardiola hinted yesterday that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. PSG have also been well-backed, presumably after the news of Mourinho’s sacking was broken by French media outlets.”
