He may have had his ups and downs in his first season with Manchester United, but Romelu Lukaku reached a milestone last month which he can take pride in.

With his goal against Swansea at Old Trafford at the end of March, the Belgian striker joined the ‘100 club’ of players with 100 or more Premier League goals.

Nestled just behind Matt Le Tissier and just in front of Emmanuel Adebayor – the top three Premier League goalscorers are Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole on 260, 208 and 187 goals respectively – Lukaku now has the chance to surpass some genuine greats in the all-time scoring charts.

Meanwhile, who could follow him into the ‘100 club’ as the next player to move into three figures for Premier League goals?

Daniel Sturridge

While it’s heavily dependent on his fitness, Daniel Sturridge has a decent chance of making the ‘100 club’. Of active strikers still playing in the Premier League, the West Brom forward is next behind Lukaku on 74 league goals.

Having only scored two goals in the league this season, Sturridge will need to rediscover his best form – this once his grim loan at the Hawthorns is over – to get another 26 career goals in the top flight. At 28, however, he still has plenty of time to get back into the groove which made him a fan favourite at Liverpool.

Olivier Giroud

Another striker who will need to pick up his scoring rate if he is going to join the ‘100 club, Giroud nonetheless has 73 Premier League goals to his name and good prospects of reaching a full century.

It says something about Giroud’s underrated contribution at Arsenal that all of those goals came for the north London club, putting him 18th in their all-time scoring lists. With only one goal in ten since he moved to Chelsea in January – and in the FA Cup no less – he needs rediscover his opportunistic scoring skills.

Eden Hazard

While he’s had no problem scoring goals in the Premier League this term, the main obstacle to Eden Hazard entering the ‘100 club’ could well be interest from European heavyweights. Incessantly linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, it’s possible that Chelsea’s scampering midfielder won’t even feature in the Premier League next season.

Should Chelsea convince Hazard to stick around, he needs another 42 goals to break into the ‘100 club’. He was most prolific in the Premier League last term with 16 goals, meaning he’d most likely have to stay for a couple of seasons at least to bring up 100 in total.

Alexis Sanchez

He’s had an underwhelming start to life at Manchester United but – having scored 60 league goals during three and a half seasons at Arsenal and added a couple more to his total since moving in January – Alexis Sanchez is more than capable of racking up three figures.

He’s currently five goals behind Theo Walcott in the race to the ‘100 club’ but, considering that Walcott is averaging 0.13 league goals a game this season, Sanchez seems considerably more likely to reach the milestone than his former teammate.

Jamie Vardy

An outside shout on 58 Premier League goals, Vardy is still a reasonable ‘100 club’ candidate.

The Leicester man has been resurgent this season and is currently fifth among the Premier League top scorers having found the target on 16 occasions. At 31, though, he’ll need reasonable longevity to net another 42 top-flight goals.
