The Rugby Pod's Aviva Picks - Week 6

Jack Pitt reveals the Pod’s Picks for week 6 of the Aviva Premiership.

Matt Banahan – I may just put him in next week before the game’s even played as he is on fire at the moment. Thunderous in defence and he is running some gorgeous lines, he got up to the half century mark of tries this week. At this rate he will reach a century by season end.

Adam Jones To step in late and play brilliantly is one thing, but to do it on the opposite side of the scrum you’re usually on is something else. He ate Kieran Brookes alive, and that is no mean feat. Jones hasn’t played since the death of his Mother in August, but he showed why Harlequins signed him at the weekend, he was superb.

Ross Moriarty – In a rather glum season for Gloucester so far, Moriarty has been the one Gloucester constant. He is growing into a real force, he will surely be a wildcard under “Gatlands law” in the autumn and I wouldn’t object to him going with the Lions in the summer, either.

Telusa Veainu – This man scored a try of the season contender at the weekend, it was that good. However, he isn’t in this prestigious weekly group just for that, he has been a dark horse so far this season in terms of his performances. His attacking prowess puts Leicester on the front foot more often than not and he is an asset they would struggle without.

Alex Lozowski – Lozowski capped off a week where he was included in England’s EPS squad with a very solid performance yesterday, both going forward and defensively. It is difficult to see him surpassing Ford and Farrell, but should injury strike he looks more than capable of doing the business on the big stage.
