Skrtel sickener as former Liverpool defender is saved by a team-mate after swallowing his tongue
A quick-thinking team-mate had to come to the rescue of Martin Skrtel after the former Liverpool defender swallowed his tongue on the pitch – then incredibly carried on playing.
After taking a blow to the head that knocked him unconscious, the 33-year-old had to be saved by midfielder Ondrej Duda on Sunday night.
Skrtel, who made near 250 Premier League appearances at Anfield, collapsed during Slovakia’s international friendly against Thailand.

Duda saw the centre-back was in big trouble and reached into his mouth to save the day.
Fenerbahce star Skrtel collapsed midway through the first half – but, after receiving medical attention, the brave veteran continued playing before finally being withdrawn late into the game.
The Turkish club will hope there are no lasting effects with the defender playing a key part in their title challenge.
He took to twitter to reassure supporters following the friendly after worried watchers posted on social media when the experienced centre-half was in trouble.
“Thanks a lot for all the fans who care about me! I’m OK Don’t worry!” he tweeted.
