Steven Davis admits Rangers should have won more trophies during his second spell at the club.

The legendary midfielder hoovered up seven winners' medals - including three titles - during his hugely successful first stint at Ibrox under Walter Smith. Northern Ireland's most-capped player was lured back to Govan in 2019 but trophy lifts were few and far between as Celtic dominated, romping to three Trebles.

Davis did get his hands back on the Premiership in 2020-21 as Steven Gerrard's side stormed to an unbeaten league campaign to shatter Celtic's ten-in-a-row dreams, as well as the 2022 Scottish Cup. He also came within touching distance of a famous Europa League Final win, only to suffer penalty shootout agony at the hands of Frankfurt.

But the 39-year-old - who was forced to retire in January - believes Rangers should have been far more successful. And with a potential Treble on the cards for Philippe Clement's men this season, Davis has backed his former teammates to steady their shaky league form and prove their bottle in the title run-in.

He said: "They have the character to bounce back again. I do think there's a lot of character in the dressing room. The team has shown that. Even during my second spell at the club we should have won more trophies than we did.

"That's on us. There's disappointment there and you have to use that disappointment to fuel you going forward. You know the landscape up here, there are always going to be questions asked. It's up to you to answer them.

"Obviously until this new group of players have that success then those questions will be there. That's just part and parcel of playing for a club the stature of Rangers."
