Sunday's Daily Fantasy Gameweek 22 must-haves and must-nots

Sunday sees just 3 fixtures in the Premier League; Southampton vs Leicester, Arsenal vs Burnley and Chelsea vs Hull. Although there aren’t as many games as there are on the Saturday, there are some important fixtures here which should make some good fantasy football games! So who are the must-haves and must-nots?

Must-Haves

Defenders

Well we might as well start with the obvious, Marcus Alonso. Many thought Chelsea were crazy to bring Alonso back to the Premier League and doubted whether or not he would get game time and he has certainly proved his doubters wrong. Although he is technically a defender, he doesn’t spend much time defending which provides plenty of fantasy football potential – he was unlucky not to bag a hat-trick against Leicester last weekend! Our second must-have for Sunday is Shkodran Mustafi who is yet to lose a game for Arsenal! It is an incredible stat, which gets better for fantasy managers when they see that he faces Burnley at home this week, giving plenty of fantasy football potential.

Midfielders

Southampton haven’t won in their last 4 Premier League fixtures, but now have a fantastic run starting with a home game against struggling champions Leicester. Nathan Redmond has had a mediocre season so far, but will be looking to fill the void left by the injured Charlie Austin and could find himself amongst the goals this week. Back to the obvious picks now with Alexis Sanchez. With a home game against Burnley, it would take a brave man to go into a fantasy game without this man this week; expect a goal or two! Our final midfield pick is Chelsea’s Pedro. Many will be looking at Eden Hazard to pick up the points, but Pedro appears to be going under the radar recently, scoring 2 and assisting another in his last 3 starts.

Strikers

There aren’t many options up top in these 3 fixtures. With a home game against Burnley, Olivier Giroud could be worth a punt, but it will be dependent on whether or not he is fit to play. If not, Alexis Sanchez will likely start up top and be amongst the fantasy points. Another gamble could be Jamie Vardy. The English striker has struggled to find the back of the net like he did last season, but will be looking to have a strong second half of the season. With Southampton’s poor form of late, it could be the perfect game to get back on track.

Must-Nots

Defenders

Hull City face league leaders Chelsea, which is likely to end in one way. Therefore, it’s wise to avoid Hull coverage, so the likes of Andrew Roberston and Eldin Jakupovic should be avoided at all costs. Burnley also have a tough away trip to Arsenal which would take another incredible performance from Tom Heaton to keep a clean sheet here, so it’s wise to avoid the likes of Ben Mee and co. The Sunday lunchtime fixture sees Southampton and Leicester face off, with both teams experiencing poor form, its unlikely to see them keep clean sheets. Therefore, the likes of Wes Morgan and Maya Yoshida should be avoided also.

Midfielders

In the middle of the park there aren’t too many to avoid. The general theme continues with Sam Clucas of Hull City and Dean Marney of Burnley our picks to avoid. Both, as previously said, have extremely tough fixtures this week and its very unlikely to see them in and amongst the fantasy footy points.

Strikers

Chelsea have a potentially high scoring fixture this weekend, however one player to avoid here would be the man himself, Diego Costa. Does he have a back injury, or is he off to China? Who knows, but he could be likely to this weekend again! That being said, one team we don’t expect to find the back of the net are Hull and therefore Adama Diomande should also be avoided – he also hasn’t found the back of the net in his last 6 games.
