As most Swansea City fans have said all month, don’t expect a new signing until late January – if at all.

Sadly that’s how predictable the club have become. Why rush? Why spend good money to stay in the league? You can see why Swans fans are pulling out their hair (what little remains after the current season).

Expensive strikers and former players…

We’re over halfway through January and, aside from one youngster heading off to Falkirk, there’s been no transfer activity.

Of course, there have been rumors. Sparking a little excitement this week, we heard confirmation that the club were planning a record-breaking £25m move for Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro.

However, three things strike us as odd.

One – the club wouldn’t spend that much in the whole transfer window, let alone on one player. Not at this stage of the season and considering the current table position.

Two – believe it or not, a striker is not what we need. Okay, let me rephrase that – we’d take whatever we can get. But it’s actually a CAM the Swans really need. Someone to create chances for two already decent strikers in Wilfried Bony and Tammy Abraham.

Three – why would someone like Gameiro gamble his career and come to Swansea, who are pretty much guaranteed relegation at this stage? If he loves a challenge, then maybe. But, to me, it’s just not happening.

A loan move for his teammate Nicolas Gaitan – an attacking midfielder – would be more sensible, and that’s another player we had heard confirmation of interest.

Regardless of all this, it seems Madrid have quashed these rumours, as there are suggestions that they’ve finished all transfer activity this window already.

Nelson Oliveira played for Swansea City in 2015 – is he coming back?!

More believably is the rumour that Swansea City are looking at former striker Nelson Oliveira. This is one target the club haven’t confirmed interest over, but it definitely has ‘typical Swans signing’ all over it.

He’s cheap (tick), he’s a former player (tick), and he’s not actually what we need (tick). Sadly, even though the club hasn’t confirmed interest in Oliveira, it’s probably more likely than Gaitan or any other quality player at this stage.

And that’s it from me. There’s nothing else to say on this transfer window as things stand! I’ll be back when the club actually have a new player – whether that’s Gaitan or, more likely, Roland Lamah and an Australian keeper.
