Swansea City Fan View: The three main things irritating Swans fans this week

As Swansea City prepare to take on Newcastle on Saturday, it’s clear 2018 isn’t going to be much different from last year. Nothing had changed – and the fans are still irritated.

This week in particular has given Swans fans several reasons to see red.

One of the most abrasive issues has been the sudden addition of a £2.50 booking fee for match tickets.

To an outsider reading this, it may sound petty. But this is not just for online bookings. This mandatory fee is imposed both online and when purchasing at the ticket office. Even with cash!

That’s £2.50 extra for the privilege of watching a team play awful football in a toxic atmosphere. I can see why it’s not sitting well with fans.

Once again, the move seems arbitrary and incredibly bad timing from a football club that is making constant mistakes.

There must be some reason the club are doing it, but – as far as I’m aware – there’s been no actual explanation as to where to money goes.

One thing is for certain – the £2.50 levy isn’t being put towards funding new players. Which is the next point of irritation…

Will there be any fresh blood?

We are now approaching the halfway point in January and there have been zero new signings. In fact, the only transfer activity for Swansea has been young Ryan Blair leaving for Falkirk.

Literally, that’s it.

As I mentioned in my last post, for a club that is seriously lacking fight and talent, we aren’t half dragging our feet when it comes to transfers. Worryingly, we’re not even going in for the David N’Gog and French Ligue 3 youngsters as we’d usually do.

Ryan Fredericks is still the only real transfer target we’re hearing of

Okay, there’s been plenty (probably too much) fuss over bringing Ryan Fredericks in from Fulham. But even if we do secure the defender, our problems wouldn’t be solved. We really need four or five good players – minimum.

Unless wallets are opened and action is taken quickly, we’ll end up scraping the barrel yet again.

Finally, I genuinely feel sorry for the Swans social media team this season – it can’t be an easy job in the current climate.

However, they didn’t help themselves earlier in the week when they put out a tweet asking for Swans fans to share their stories of being Swansea supporters. Ouch.

Grab a bag of popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the responses. There were more than 150, and the majority of them weren’t very friendly, as you can probably imagine. In fact, many fans demanded a £2.50 fee in exchange for their memories.

However amusing this is, our smiles vanish as soon as we remember that the club is bottom of the league, have done no business in the transfer window, and are cruising towards certain relegation.

No wonder fans are so irritated.
