West Ham face Manchester United on Thursday with the Premier League in its final week. We were defeated 4-0 by United in the opening game of the season. Here are three things to look out for…

Secured safety

With a 2-0 win at Leicester City, we finally secured safety in the Premier League. The majority of the season was one of nerves and anxiety for West Ham fans, given that we always had the fear of relegation. We looked very likely to go down with the way our performances were going under Slaven Bilic.

AS IT UNFOLDED: Leicester v West Ham

But then David Moyes came in and he has done the job that was required of him. We did not expect him to play great football, but simply keep us in the Premier League. It does not look like he will stay on as manager and now we look ahead to the summer – who will the club appoint next?

A shock result?

Manchester United were extremely poor against Brighton and they simply deserved to lose. They have effectively secured second place, and they only have the FA Cup to play for. So can we pull off a shock result this Thursday?

With Romelu Lukaku, who always scores against West Ham, missing the game, we have a chance. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have not been performing well for months, which should help our defence. We could see Moyes target United’s left-hand side with left-back the glaring issue in our opponent’s team.

Key battle – Manuel Lanzini v Nemanja Matic

Manuel Lanzini put in another fantastic performance against Leicester City and he will have a difficult game this Thursday. Nemanja Matic has been a crucial player for Manchester United since signing for the club, and his form of late has been good.

Lanzini had periods this season where he struggled, and we undoubtedly need another creative player in the summer transfer window. When Lanzini does not play, we lack attacking fluidity. With Stoke City relegated, many fans have called for the club to sign Xherdan Shaqiri. Could we see Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic play together once again?
