Tottenham vs Newcastle: Prediction, tickets, live stream, TV, team news - Premier League 2019-20 preview

Tottenham vs Newcastle United
Premier League 2019/20 season
Venue:
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Date: Sunday, 25th August, 2019
Kick-off time: 4.30pm BST

Tottenham will be looking for a thumping win this afternoon as they welcome Newcastle to N17 ahead of next week's north London derby.

A morale-boosting draw away at Manchester City, arguably any team's toughest game of the season, will have been an entirely different prospect and now Harry Kane and Co. will be hoping to boost their confidence in front of goal before visiting the Emirates Stadium.

Newcastle were hotly tipped for relegation before the season and perhaps changed a few minds after a narrow home loss to Arsenal on the opening weekend, but a dismal 3-1 loss at newly promoted Norwich has turned the tide once again.

Team news and predicted lineups

Heung-min Son is back in contention after serving a suspension. The forward missed the opening two games of the season following his red card against Bournemouth in the penultimate game of last season, with Juan Foyth also receiving his marching orders.

Foyth remains sidelined, however, after suffering an ankle injury during pre-season and is joined in the treatment room by summer arrival Ryan Sessegnon.

Ben Davies and Dele Alli have resumed training but this weekend may come too soon for the pair. Giovani Lo Celso made his debut with a five-minute run out against Manchester City and should be afforded a longer cameo.

Dwight Gayle, Joleinton and Allan Saint-Maximum are all in contention to make the trip to London, the latter two may start after being assessed.

Elsewhere, DeAndre Yedlin and Andy Carroll are also unlikely to see much action before the international break while Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune and Jack Colback are longer-term absentees.

Tottenham XI: Lloris; Walker-Peters, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Rose; Winks, Ndombele, Eriksen; Lucas, Kane, Son

Newcastle XI: Dubravka; Krafth, Schar, Lascelles, Dummett, Ritchie; Hayden, Shelvey, Longstaff; Almiron, Joelinton

Prediction: Tottenham 3-0 Newcastle

Tottenham are on a four-game winning streak over Newcastle but that has only told half the story, with a Rafael Benitez-managed team always going down fighting in a close affair.

Steve Bruce looked without answers as Teemu Pukki ran his team ragged last weekend and the prospect of Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, Christian Eriksen and returning Heung-min Son are a fearsome threat.

Expects goals on Sunday, with most likely in the hosts' favour.

Guardiola: Liverpool, United and Tottenham all contenders

Head to head (h2h) results and history

Tottenham have won their last four on the trot against Newcastle since that 5-1 collapse on the final day of the 2015-16 season.

Those wins, though, have all been fairly tense affairs with Rafael Benitez in charge. Steve Bruce could pose a less significant threat.
