West Brom Fan View: Relax... Pulis has gone

Tony Pulis simply had to go

It just could not go on any longer. In the end, Tony Pulis had lost the support of the fans and the players, with some questionable team selections, negative tactics and a shocking run of results. We’ve been on a few bad runs before, but nothing like what we’ve seen over the last 22 games. In the end, it was the results, rather than the tactics, that saw Pulis sacked.

I must admit, I felt a huge sigh of relief when I heard the news of Pulis’ sacking. For the last two-and-half-years, I haven’t enjoyed watching my own football club, I’ve become disillusioned and started to become numb to results.

That is a feeling that I never want to have again, and it was all due to Pulis and his unambitious negative tactics. When you play that way, and the results don’t come, what is there to shout about?

But now West Brom can look forward with optimism and excitement, as a new era begins at The Hawthorns. The club isn’t in a relegation scrap, as they’re just 3 points off 12th position, so it’s not an overly difficult job to take on.

In the Premier League, nothing is guaranteed. However, What is for certain, is if the new manager comes in and tries to play anything near decent football, the fans will be absolutely delighted and you will see attendances rise fairly quickly.

At the moment, Alan Pardew is the favourite to take the job. From what I’ve seen of his previous spells, at Newcastle and Crystal Palace, he does try to play on the front foot and attack the opposition, which will go down very well indeed with the Albion faithful, after nearly three years of boredom.

Whoever gets the job, he will get backing from both the fans and the club. We just want something to shout about, and Pulis denied us that. Thanks Tony, but enough was enough.
