Carabao Cup draw LIVE! Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham learn quarter-final fate
Carabao Cup draw - LIVE!
Eight teams remain in the Carabao Cup and all those still involved will be increasingly believing that it could be them at Wembley in February. That is particularly the case this season, with Manchester City and Tottenham knocked out in previous rounds and both Arsenal and Manchester United exiting in tame fashion on Wednesday night.
Chelsea booked their place in the last-eight with a comfortable win over Blackburn but face a much sterner test in December, when they welcome Newcastle to Stamford Bridge. Liverpool remain the favourites to go all the way in the competition and they will back themselves to reach the semi-finals, having been drawn at home to West Ham.
Port Vale and Middlesbrough are the two clubs still in the Carabao Cup from outside of the Premier League, and at least one will be in the last-four after they were drawn against each other. Everton host Fulham in the other quarter-final clash. Follow all the action from the quarter-final draw LIVE below!

Neville: Old Trafford is now the 'Theatre of Nothing'
08:19 , Alex Young
Gary Neville has predicted Erik ten Hag will be sacked by Manchester United as Old Trafford, nicknamed the 'Theatre of Dreams', is now the "Theatre of Nothing".
Newcastle on Wednesday ran out convincing 3-0 winners to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals as goals from Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock sealed a comfortable victory for a team in the midst of a crippling injury crisis. It was the latest low point of a miserable season for Ten Hag & Co.
United were abject. Neville said during Sky Sports' coverage of the players: "They're just sleeping, they're complaining to the referee, whinging. And whilst they’re whinging, Newcastle are winning."
But it is not the squad nor the manager that Neville blames for United's current malaise, rather the Glazers. And the player-turned-pundit compared the situation to the ongoing inquiry into the British government's handling of the Covid pandemic.

Ten Hag: I'm a fighter
07:07 , Alex Young
Erik ten Hag insists he will fight for his Manchester United future after Newcastle piled more pressure on the under-fire boss.
The wretched Red Devils were easily brushed aside 3-0 in a fourth-round repeat of last season's Carabao Cup final at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, with the limp end to their trophy defence following hot on the heels of a one-sided Manchester derby defeat by the same scoreline on Sunday.
It is the first time since 1962 that United have lost back-to-back home games 3-0, while they had previously not lost eight or more of their first 15 matches to start a season since the 1962/63 campaign.
"I am a fighter and I know it is not always going up," he said.
"We have a lot of setbacks this season so far, but also you have to deal with it and that is never an excuse.
"I have said that before I know when there are setbacks the routines are not the same, but even then you have to get results in.
"Obviously, Sunday and tonight were far from that so we have to do things right and at a certain level, at the minimum level to win games."
Thanks for following!

Arteta reacts to Arsenal's tame exit
Wednesday 1 November 2023 22:45 , Matt Verri
Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup tonight after defeat to West Ham, and their manager is not a happy man.
"I'm really disappointed and I am responsible for that," Mikel Arteta has said.
"It wasn't good enough. We didn't compete good enough. I tried to warn them [the players] for 48 hours what was coming and how important it was going to be.
"Overall we were nowhere near the level we needed to show. We didn't threaten enough. I wanted to see much more from my team. There is a lot to improve."
Stand by!
Wednesday 1 November 2023 22:41 , Matt Verri
Right, enough of the waiting around. The draw is very nearly upon us.
Six Premier League teams in the hat, along with Middlesbrough and Port Vale, who are 16th in the League One and in no real form apart from when the Carabao Cup rolls around!

West Ham eye another deep run
Wednesday 1 November 2023 22:32 , Matt Verri
West Ham are now into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and, after winning the Europa Conference League last season, David Moyes has praised his side’s ability in cup competitions - even if he is hungry for that to translate to the Premier League.
“Maybe we are becoming quite a good cup team possibly,” the West Ham boss said. “I want to be a really good league team if I can be.
“But, if I can’t quite do that, then I have to do well in the cups if we can. Now, we have only won a game against Arsenal tonight, you don’t get any trophies tonight for that.
“But we said that a little bit last year when we were on the run to win the Conference League. You can only take the game and see what’s going to come next. The draws in the cups are always hugely important.”
Shock winner on the cards?
Wednesday 1 November 2023 22:26 , Matt Verri
Liverpool won the Carabao Cup in 2022, while Chelsea have lifted the trophy on a couple of occasions in the last 15 years or so.

Gone slightly under the radar, with some of the all-Premier League matches taking centre stage, but Fulham have enjoyed a strong side.

85 mins: West Ham fans in fine voice, party has well and truly started in the stands.
Still a fair few jeers whenever Rice gets the ball - not exactly a happy return for the former West Ham captain.

82 mins: First West Ham change of the night.
Ward-Prowse on, replacing Benrahma who gets a huge ovation. Paqueta then tries to rainbow flick it over Vieira' s head, gives away the free-kick in the process.

West Ham 3-0 Arsenal

77 mins: Fair to say Saka and Martinelli have not changed things since coming on - those changes do seem strange.
So does this one, Odegaard is getting ready to come on.
West Ham 3-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 21:02 , Matt Verri
73 mins: Martinelli concedes the free-kick, West Ham bring the centre-backs up. They want a fourth...
Bowen whips it towards the far post, not a million miles away from causing Ramsdale problems but it's comfortably wide.
West Ham 3-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 20:59 , Matt Verri
70 mins: It's West Ham still winning every 50/50. Arsenal well off it.
Bowen continues to impress leading the line, holds the ball up really well and wins the free-kick. Not great news for Antonio or Ings...
West Ham 3-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 20:54 , Matt Verri
66 mins: West Ham briefly down to ten, Bowen off the pitch with a lot of blood coming from a cut around his eye.
Arsenal win a corner, Fabianski off his line to punch the ball away.
Arteta is turning to his bench - Saka and Martinelli coming on! They're not giving up on this yet. Trossard and Nelson off.
West Ham 3-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 20:52 , Matt Verri
63 mins: This really has been awful since half-time from Arsenal. Second best doesn't do it justice.
Sloppy on the ball, West Ham have just overpowered down. No sign at all of Arsenal threatening to get themselves back in it.

GOAL! West Ham 3-0 Arsenal | Jarrod Bowen 60'

This is getting very ugly for Arsenal!
West Ham have pretty much wrapped it up inside an hour as they make it 3-0.
Coufal's cross in is headed out by White, falls for Bowen just outside the area. Lashes it past Ramsdale, with the help of a deflection.
West Ham 2-0 Arsenal

West Ham 1-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 20:15 , Matt Verri
44 mins: Atmosphere has quietened down a fair bit - there's not much to get excited about from either side.
That'll suit the Hammers just fine, heading towards half-time. Arsenal knocking the ball around confidently enough, but it's nothing more than that.
West Ham 1-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 20:12 , Matt Verri
41 mins: Arsenal have had 70% of the ball, West Ham have had no shots... but it's the Hammers who are leading!
Strange sport.
West Ham 1-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 20:09 , Matt Verri
38 mins: Big chance for the Gunners, Nketiah can't convert.
Trossard plays the ball over the top for Zinchenko, who has made a great run into the box.
He hooks it into the middle, Nketiah gets there first but he sends the finish miles over the bar.
West Ham 1-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 20:07 , Matt Verri
36 mins: Wouldn't say this a match full of quality so far.
Havertz's touch at the back post is so bad that it is nicely cushioned straight to Fabianski, before Benrahma sends the ball straight out of play.
The winger then stands still as Nelson cuts inside past him, shot is blocked.
West Ham 1-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 20:04 , Matt Verri
33 mins: Ball pinged to the back post, Trossard can only volley it straight up into the air.
Havertz opts against something subtle and instead runs straight into his main without even pretending to look at the ball. Free-kick.

West Ham 1-0 up after 30 minutes and yet to have a shot on goal. About sums it up.
West Ham 1-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 20:01 , Matt Verri
30 mins: Ramsdale needs to be careful. Home fans getting right on his back whenever he has the ball at his feet, a couple of slightly shaky moments already.
Jorginho just about avoids losing the ball and Arsenal can get on the attack, but the dinked ball into the box is a really poor one.
The Gunners have not got going in the final third.

The atmosphere at Carabao Cup games can be pretty flat but the home crowd here have been bang up for this ever since the kick-off.
Rice's return no doubt adding a bit of spice to the occasion.
West Ham 1-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 19:58 , Matt Verri
27 mins: Not a good passage of play for Arsenal.
Nketiah can't hold the ball up, doesn't get the free-kick he wants and Mavropanos can lead the counter. In fact he is the counter, too quick for Jorginho and he runs near enough the length of the pitch to win a corner.
Bowen to the neat post, Alvarez flicks it on and Ramsdale gets the decision as he parries the ball away.

Declan Rice heads out to warm up.
It starts with boos and ends with applause.
West Ham 1-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 19:55 , Matt Verri
25 mins: White looks to make a contribution at the right end this time, looping a header at goal. It looks to be very harmless, but Fabianski is across and opts to turn it behind for a corner - Arsenal will be thrilled with that.
Almost even more thrilled. To the near post, Nketiah up well and in space but he powers the header over.
Rice warming up on the touchline - nice ovation for him.
West Ham 1-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 19:54 , Matt Verri
23 mins: Moyes will be really happy with how this has gone so far.
Arsenal not really creating anything, and looking very shaky at the back and in midfield when the Hammers do win it back.
Feel like there will be plenty more opportunities for the hosts on the break.
Malik Ouzia at the London Stadium

A couple of times in the last few minutes West Ham have been able to highlight Jorginho's lack of mobility in midfield.
First Bowen putting him under pressure and then Paqueta running away from him.
West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

18 mins: Arsenal threaten to respond immediately, as Vieira picks out Havertz.

14 mins: Coufal flings the ball long into the box, it's flicked on but Arsenal do well to clear.

Few bright moments from Havertz early on.
It is noticeable how Ramsdale is looking to find him from long kicks forward, with Havertz acting as focal point - even from midfield.
West Ham 0-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 19:42 , Matt Verri
11 mins: Arsenal as you'd expect dominating the ball, but that won't bother West Ham at all.
The Gunners try and force it, clipping the ball long and Emerson can duck under it to let it run out for a goal-kick.
West Ham 0-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 19:40 , Matt Verri
8 mins: Alvarez too keen to make a challenge out wide, gifts a free-kick to Arsenal.

Soucek there in his own six-yard box to head clear.
West Ham 0-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 19:37 , Matt Verri
6 mins: Brilliant defending from Mavropanos.

I thought David Moyes got it the wrong way round on Sunday when he started with Lucas Paqueta out wide and Mohammed Kudus through the centre.
It's the other way around tonight and that should help the Brazilian get more involved while giving Kudus the chance to run at Zinchenko, who can be susceptible one-on-one.
West Ham 0-0 Arsenal
Wednesday 1 November 2023 19:35 , Matt Verri
5 mins: Paqueta is away for West Ham, it's briefly three-on-two.
He's driving down the left for the hosts, waits for Bowen to make the run... overhits the pass and it's straight through to Ramsdale. Real waste.
West Ham 0-0 Arsenal

"We've had a great run of form to be honest - we've had a bad week," the West Ham boss is quick to say.
Moyes: Rice should be welcomed back
Wednesday 1 November 2023 19:08 , Matt Verri
David Moyes has called on West Ham fans to welcome Declan Rice back with open arms tonight.
The former Hammers captain left the club to join Arsenal in a £105million deal in the summer and this marks his first return to east London, even if he is only named on the bench.
Rice walked away on a high after leading West Ham to their first major silverware in 43 years in last season’s Europa Conference League final in Prague.
Despite that trophy-winning legacy, however, not all Irons fans gave Rice’s departure their blessing, the Englishman having rejected several offers of a lucrative new contract and spoken openly about his desire to play Champions League football.
"I hope we'll see Declan back,” Moyes said. “This is the man who lifted the first European trophy in 50 years at West Ham. He should be welcomed back with open arms.
"He was a brilliant member of the team and conducted himself impeccably as a West Ham captain. I'm really looking forward to seeing him. I'm not sure I want him to play! But I hope he is there."
Arteta delivers Carabao Cup verdict
Wednesday 1 November 2023 19:00 , Matt Verri
Mikel Arteta says his Arsenal players would have to be “very arrogant” to turn their noses up at the Carabao Cup.
By this stage last season, the Gunners were already out having been beaten in the third round by Brighton, but with their side at that stage top of the Premier League, few supporters lost much sleep over the defeat.
Unlike last term, Arsenal are also juggling Champions League football alongside their title aspirations this season and Arteta concedes that the least prestigious of the four major honours up for grabs will not be top of most fans’ wish lists.
“I don’t know if we can convince them,” Arteta said. “If you ask about what the priority would be, it wouldn’t be the Carabao Cup for sure."
“I don’t think the players think like that,” he added, when asked whether players, too, saw the benefit that an early exit could have in decongesting the fixture list.
“I think they get really upset when they lose. After you are out you try to look at the bigger picture and say, ‘ Ok, now we’re going to use it in a different way.’ But if you ask someone what they want to do [tonight], for sure they want to win the game.”

PA announcer just now at the London Stadium: "Hello and welcome for tonight's Carabao Cup game. It's the return of...Arsenal."
Declan Rice's name read out and a few boos from the small number of fans here so far.
Changes for the visitors
Wednesday 1 November 2023 18:40 , Matt Verri
So then, Mikel Arteta does indeed shuffle his pack as expected.
The likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and William Saliba are on the bench, while Declan Rice will have to wait if he is to feature against his former club.
Chance for Aaron Ramsdale to impress in goal, while Kai Havertz needs a strong night in midfield.
It's a lot closer to full-strength for West Ham, even if James Ward-Prowse drops to the bench. Jarrod Bowen leads the line, with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings out of form.
Another opportunity for Mohammed Kudus, while Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez both start ahead of their Premier League suspensions.

It's Liverpool who are currently favourites to go all the way in the Carabao Cup this season - they travel to Bournemouth tonight.
Arsenal well-fancied too, while you can expect those West Ham odds to be cut significantly if they knock out the Gunners to reach the quarter-finals.

Arsenal 4/1
Man Utd 5/1
Chelsea 11/2
