Sigurdsson has long been a favourite among fantasy managers due to his consistency in the Premier League over the past couple of seasons. He showed good form in the early part of the season but then went through a barren spell during Bob Bradley’s final few games in charge which resulted in fantasy managers looking elsewhere. Since Paul Clement took over at the Liberty Stadium, Sigurdsson has been back to his old self – scoring 3 goals and registering 2 assists in the 5 league matches the new manager has been in charge. Clement has fielded Sigurdsson on the left wing but has afforded him licence to drift into central areas where he is at his best, creating opportunities for his teammates and having shots at goal himself. According to Opta, since his Premier League debut, only Yaya Toure (16) has scored more goals from outside the box than Sigurdsson (13).

The Icelandic is the dream player for a fantasy manager – he’s listed as a midfielder but he’s the focal point of the Swansea attack. Everything goes through him. He commands all of Swansea’s set pieces, corners, free kicks and penalties so he’s a must own for the rest of the season in an improving Swansea team.

The Swans face Leicester City this weekend who have been dreadful in their defence of the Premier League title and who face the real possibility of Championship football next season and currently sit just one point above the relegation zone in 16th position. In-form Swansea will be confident of piling even more misery on Claudio Ranieri and his team on Sunday.

NOT – Adam Lallana (Liverpool) – £20

Adam Lallana
Adam Lallana

Position: Midfielder

Form: No attacking returns in his last 5 league matches

Fixture: Tottenham Hotspur (H)

Lallana has 7 goals and 7 assists to his name in the Premier League but his form has nosedived in recent weeks and he’s failed to return any attacking points for fantasy managers in Liverpool’s last five matches.

[Pochettino upbeat on Rose injury, Spurs’ title chances]

Jurgen Klopp’s side have endured a miserable start to 2017. Their last league win was against Manchester City on the 31st of December. They suffered a humiliating 2-0 defeat to Hull City at the KCOM stadium last Saturday which highlighted the issues faced by the Klopp and his coaching staff. Opponents seem to have found a way to cope with Liverpools’s high pressing tactics in recent weeks and then hitting them on the counter attack – exposing their defensive frailties.

Lallana was at his most threatening this season when Philippe Coutinho was out of action through injury. Now that the Brazilian is back to pull the strings in the midfield coupled with the return of Sadio Mane from the African Cup of Nations, Lallana is no longer the attractive fantasy option he was a couple of weeks ago. The Englishman is one of the first names on Klopp’s team sheet each week but that’s down to his energy and willingness to chase after every ball for 90 minutes rather than his goal scoring potential which is what us fantasy mangers are looking for in a player.

Liverpool have a difficult fixture this weekend at White Hart Lane. Tottenham have the best defensive record in the Premier League having conceded just 16 goals and it’s likely that we’ll see Lallana’s record of five games without attacking returns become six.
