INVERCLYDE AC once again hosted the Young Athletes Road Race Championships at The Battery Park on behalf of our governing body scottishathletics.

The weather early in the day was dry with the normal windy conditions at the Battery Park missing as the first event, 1K Minis race for children in Primary 1-4 started to the cheers and support of parents and club spectators.

First to finish was Samuel Church of P4 representing Giffnock North AAC closely followed by Another P4, Reenie Henry in second place and Louis Sutherland in third, both representing Inverclyde Minis.

The P3 race was won by James Mooney with Ruaridh Callan second, both representing Inverclyde Minis with Finn McNulty of Springburn in third place.

The P1and P2 races were all from Inverclyde Minis, with Fox Delussey and Aria Connachan winning the medals for P2 and Andrew McFarlane, Adam Bryson and Lily Kerr for P1.

The U11s girls race over 1.6K Inverclyde took silver medal in the team awards with Rosie Callan, Rosa Currie, Anna Shearer the counting finishers.

In the U11s boys race over the same distance, Louis Reid had to be content with the silver medal after a strong finish from Christopher Cameron of Giffnock North AAC to take the gold. The podium was completed by Harris Turnbull of Strathearn taking the bronze.

The team event was won by Giffnock North AAC with Strathearn in silver position and Inverclyde AC in bronze. Counting finishers for Inverclyde AC were Louis, Rudy Byrne and Aaron Kirkwood.

Medals were presented by Inverclyde’s Lead U11s coach, Kay Cooke, and the club would like to thank all officials who helped with these races:

Inverclyde AC is now focusing attention on the summer track and field events with participation in leagues, open graded meetings and championships as well as Superteams for the U12s and hopefully more competition opportunities for this younger age group.
