Gary Neville has unveiled his ambitious plans to construct two new sky scrapers in Manchester city centre.

The England legend has said the multimillion-pound ‘St Michael’s’ project which includes a five-star hotel and luxury apartments, will create more than 1,300 jobs.

Older buildings located on Jackson’s Row - in the city's centre - will be demolished to make way for two new tower blocks, three new public spaces and a synagogue.

The project is being planned by the St Michael's Partnership - an international consortium - formed by Neville, fellow United star Ryan Giggs and businessman Brendan Flood.

Neville, now 41, said the project would bring life back to ‘key, underused area of the city’.

But talks of the new development has also raised concerns over the fate of the city's historic buildings.

The government heritage agency, Historic England, has claimed that the sheer scale of the buildings would ‘cause a high level of harm’ to the conservation area and civic buildings.
