Storm Talas Brings Heavy Flooding to Japan's Pacific Coast

Storm Talas moved northeast along Japan’s central Pacific coastline on Saturday, September 24, the country’s meteorological agency said, bringing flooding to some areas.

Local media reported that one person died after a landslide hit a house in Shizuoka Prefecture, while another person was found dead after their car plunged into a body of water.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said early Saturday there was record short-term heavy rain in Shizuoka. It issued a tornado warning for central and western parts of the prefecture due to severe gusts from the storm, and warned of lightning, hail, and sudden heavy rain.
