Alisson Becker shares honest thoughts on Arne Slot replacing Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool

Alisson Becker shared his thoughts on Arne Slot replacing Klopp as the new Liverpool boss

Jürgen Klopp used his Liverpool farewell to look to the future. He led Anfield in a chant for new manager Arne Slot — the first confirmation of that appointment from the Reds' side of things.

But even with Klopp's backing, it's a change that will be hard to get used to, for players and fans alike. One of the stalwarts of the Liverpool dressing room has spoken about the handover.

Of the existing crop of players, only Joe Gomez precedes Klopp at Liverpool. It will be a major shake-up for everybody.

On the pitch, both Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold were seemingly moved to tears. The full-back has not known another coach in his senior career.

Meanwhile, Alisson — an influential figure and one of the members of Klopp's leadership group — spoke to Sky Sports about the planned transition to Slot. He admitted that this would be more or less uncharted territory.

"Now we have a huge challenge in front of us," Alisson said. "Change of manager, we don't know too much about him but I'm sure he'll work a lot to put his mentality across."

Slot has built up an impressive reputation in his native Netherlands, especially among Feyenoord fans. There were emotional scenes when he said a goodbye of his own.

But in the wider footballing world, Slot remains more of an unknown. While there are numerous reasons to trust Liverpool's verdict that he is the right man to take over from Klopp, there has to be an acceptance that most of the players are unlikely to have any real clue about him.

But it could be that what Slot knows about the Liverpool players is more important. That's certainly how Alisson is viewing things:

"He knows we're the kind of players who want to win trophies, be competitive. Nothing is guaranteed in the Premier League, you have to be competitive, you have to be at the top and perform in a way that you can achieve things."

The players have achieved just about everything under Klopp. It's a tough act to follow for Slot, but he takes over a world-class team who will be determined to succeed under him.

Liverpool.com says: There's nothing wrong with admitting that Slot is something of an unknown. We were all scrambling to do our homework on him once he emerged as the leading candidate for Liverpool.

But Michael Edwards and the others responsible for the decision were never going to base the appointment on mere name recognition. While there are benefits of boasting a manager who has a certain cachet, the hope will be that he can build that up at Liverpool over time.

Alisson can be relied upon to give his utmost to make that a reality. He will miss Klopp a lot, but will take it upon himself to ensure that the squad really attacks this new era.
