Burnley Fan View: Sean Dyche's evolution still ongoing

Burnley have found themselves amongst the top 6 this season after a miraculous start, but with Sean Dyche at the helm there’s no reason why we can’t maintain the great start for the remainder of the season.

The change in the club over the last few years has been incredible. Last season we were team of hardworking, brave and honest players who scrap it out with the lower teams and give it a good go against the big boys. In just 12 months we have transformed into one of the better sides in the country, and this is not through luck.

Dyche has instilled an inner belief in his players that we are good enough to be where we are, and as we’ve outgrown some players such as George Boyd and David Jones we haven’t lost that fighting spirit. We have evolved from one to another, without forgetting what made us strong in the first place.

We all know you can’t have everything you want right away, without the financial doping that we have seen at the likes of Chelsea and Man City. We have built it up over time and with considerable effort from all parties involved. So whilst last season our football wasn’t great, it was what we needed to do to remain in the Premier League. We succeeded fairly comfortably in the end.

Now with a full offseason to prepare, Dyche has recognised that we can be a ball playing team and not just frustrate opponents. We have been much more attacking and clinical away from home, whilst retaining our steely resolve at home.

Some of the passing football has been superb to watch, and the likes of Jack Cork and Steven Defour in particular are really shining. The emergence of Gudmunsson after his injury-ridden 2016 is also a pleasant surprise. We have gone from two defensively stout wide midfielders in Arfield and Boyd, to two attacking and technically gifted wingers. Dyche would never have allowed this change to happen if he wasn’t confident they could keep our defensive discipline, and that is a big change this season in those players too.

We look exactly like how a top 6 team should look. We are handling mid table and below teams with skill and class and giving all of the top clubs a close game where we don’t just turn up and defend but we are a big part of the attacking conversation too.

All of this stems from Sean Dyche who has methodically built us from the ground up to be where we are today. His training, mentality and tactical awareness are excellent, but what sets him apart is his understanding of that process from front to back. Focusing on us and not the opposition and what we can achieve.

I don’t think we are ready to get off yet but as he said himself, lets enjoy the ride.
