Champions League Daily Fantasy Gameweek 7 review: Aguero, Falcao star as Jamie Vardy returns to form

The Champions League first-leg ties are now all out of the way which saw Manchester City and Atletico Madrid both win thrilling matches, but Jamie Vardy’s away goal for Leicester City against Sevilla was not enough to keep Claudio Ranieri in the manager’s job.

But what did that all mean for Daily Fantasy?

Tuesday night’s crazy match saw City take the lead, surrender it twice, before finally scoring three quick, late goals to take a two-goal advantage into the return leg in Monaco. In terms of Fantasy, 4 Manchester City stars stood out in particular – Sergio Aguero was the round’s top scorer with 30.20 points, Raheem Sterling scored 19.40, Leroy Sane 18.50 and John Stones 15. All four made the gameweek’s Dreamteam. However, it wasn’t all plain sailing for City as Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando both recorded negative scores, while Kevin De Bruyne was selected by 29% of players but could only score 5.20 points. For Monaco, two players broke double figures – forwards Kylian Mbappe scored 12.30 points and Radamel Falcao earned 22.70 points and a Dreamteam place. Popular selections Fabinho (9.8) and Thomas Lemar (6.5) also had solid matches but Djibril Sidibe struggled with only 0.50. However, that was still miles better than goalkeeper Danijel Subasic who put in one of the worst Daily Fantasy performances of recent memory with -8.50.

Bayer Leverkusen 2 Atletico Madrid 4

Atletico Madrid were also strong Fantasy performers in their 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen, but apart from Antoine Griezmann (17.90 points) the performances all came slightly unexpected sources. Fellow forward Kevin Gameiro (16.60), midfielder Saul Niguez (15.80) and defender Sime Vrsalijko (10.40) were all selected by less than 10% of players. Conversely, Miguel Angel (3), Filipe Luis (2.80) and Yannick Carrasco (2.70) were all selected by more than 20% of players but underwhelmed significantly. For Leverkusen, midfielders Kevin Kampl (10.8), Karim Bellarabi (10.60) and Chicharito (9.60) were all popular selections and responded with solid scores. However, cheap option Kai Havertz (£10, 1.30 points) was disappointing.

Sevilla 2 Leicester City 1

The tie between the two Cinderella sides in this season’s Champions League is still delicately poised thanks to Jamie Vardy’s late away goal. Vardy was incidentally the Foxes’ top scorer with 11 points and the man who supplied him with his goal, Danny Drinkwater was second with 9.30. However, Leicester’s most popular selections, Wilfried Ndidi (5.20) and Riyad Mahrez (1.70) both disappointed. It was a different story with Sevilla, however, as several players scored heavily. Midfielders Pablo Sarabia (15.80) and Vitolo (9.40), defender Sergio Escudero (15.40) and forward Steven Jovetic (14.30) were all heavy selections and scored well, as did and Joaquín Correa with 13.10 points. However, fellow popular players Samir Nasri (5.90) and goalkeeper Sergio Rico, who was in almost 60% of teams, were disappointing.

Porto 0 Juventus 2

Porto were eventually ground down by Serie A giants Juventus and the match turned on Alex Telles’ red card for Porto, as a result the defender scored -5.80 – a big blow to the 25% of teams he was selected in. No-one stood out for Porto – top scorer Danilo Pereira only scored 3.50 points! Juventus on the other hand, had plenty of strong scorers with defender Alex Sandro top scoring with 15.70 points. Fellow defender Dani Alves was second with 13 points, despite not starting. Midfielders Marko Pjaca (12.40) and Miralem Pjanic (12.10) and goalkeeper Gigi Buffon (10) rounded out the 5 players to break double figures. There were also contrasting results for popular forward selections Paulo Dybala (47%) and Gonzalo Higuain (58%) who scored 9.50 and 2.10 points respectively.
