Jose Mourinho reveals stance on signing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea after Fenerbahce move

Jose Mourinho has given an early indication as to his plans in the transfer market after being confirmed as the Fenerbahce new manager.

The 61-year-old has returned to football management for the first time since being sacked by AS Roma in January and has signed a two-year deal with the Istanbul giants.

Mourinho was unveiled in front of thousands of supporters on Sunday during a marathon press conference that lasted more than 90 minutes.

Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku had been tipped as one of Mourinho’s early transfer targets after former Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim named the Belgian international as a potential signing.

Mourinho briefly worked with Lukaku while the striker was still a teenager with the Blues and then signed him for around £75m from Everton while Manchester United manager in 2017.

The pair were then reunited last summer when Lukaku joined Roma on loan, though he is now set for a return to Chelsea.

Standard Sport understands the 31-year-old will be available for around £38m this summer, having spent the last two seasons out on loan following a big-money move back to Stamford Bridge in 2021.

Napoli - who will reportedly soon confirm Antonio Conte as their new manager - are one of the parties interested, although there have been no discussions held in regard to a potential swap deal with Victor Osimhen.

Conte and Lukaku worked together at Inter Milan and won the Serie A title before the striker’s ill-fated return to England.

Asked about the possibility of signing Lukaku and Roma teammate Paulo Dybala, however, Mourinho responded: “Let me be clear: I have zero interest in any player from AS Roma”.
