Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool face 'tricky' situation with Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah

Jurgen Klopp is confident that both Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah will soon rediscover their best form in front of goal.

The pair were both wasteful in Wednesday night’s Merseyside defeat to Everton as they put in another disappointing display in front of goal.

Nunez has scored just once from his last nine appearances, with that strike one he knew little about as clearance from goalkeeper Ivo Grbic rebounded in off the Uruguayan against Sheffield United. Meanwhile, Salah has scored twice from his last seven outings, but both goals have been penalties.

Admitting the pair are not in a good moment at the moment, Klopp insisted it is normal for strikers to go through such droughts as he revealed how he is trying to help the two forwards rediscover their form.

“Not in a good moment, one or two,” he said. “That is obviously the most tricky thing to do. Strikers not scoring, whatever I say.

“It is tricky, strikers have to go through these things. That’s how it is, that’s a striker’s life. Goalkeeper’s life is make 500 saves and one howler, and everybody talks about this. Striker’s life you score all the time then you don’t score for a while, and everybody asks you why you don’t score.

“It is the most difficult thing in the world, and can sometimes be the most easy thing in the world. Depends on the assists you get.

“We had good chances against Everton. I saw as well we were a bit in a rush in finishing them off, so we have to calm ourselves down, create again, create again and try to get in the right positions to finish the situations off.

“But if there would be the one solution that brings each striker after missing a few chances directly back to his best, I would be a really rich man if I could write that book.

“You have to go through it and I try to help them to speed it up. That says nothing about the quality of the boys, just the moment.

“Generally our timing is not fantastic in the moment, for all of us. We were not great for the last two weeks or so, or parts of that. Timing is not great, really sorry for that.

“It is how it is and now we have to start again. We have four games to go, 12 points to get. If you ask me, I want them all.”

Meanwhile, Klopp confirmed that Cody Gakpo would be available for Saturday’s trip to West Ham United following the birth of his little boy, but revealed that both Diogo Jota and Conor Bradley are not yet ready to return to training.

“Little Samuel is born. Don’t know what time exactly but according to him (Gakpo), everything fine,” Klopp said. “Mother well, boy well, father well and back in training yesterday.

“Both (Jota and Bradley) not ready. Progressing well, not ready. Nobody told me yet they will start training in the next few days, so it will take time, a little bit.”
