West Ham Fan View: How David Moyes will have to handle the injury crisis

West Ham were finally looking good. After months of disappointment, it was exciting to watch our games again. Yes, we have only won two out of our last five games but we are only two points behind ninth place. The injury news that has come out in recent days has made every West Ham fan fear the upcoming fixtures.

Manuel Lanzini

Manuel Lanzini has started sixteen Premier League games this season and this would be more had he not been injured. He did not have the greatest of starts and failed to find his form from last season but his performances in recent games showed that he was back to his best.

He is rumoured to be out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury and this is the worst possible news that we could have received. Lanzini is the only true creative player that we have in the team and his combination with Marko Arnautovic has been excellent to watch. He has two goals and one assist in his last four games and his injury was inevitable. Our poor squad planning means that he has barely been given rest given that we do not have a single player who possesses the same attributes.

Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll may not have even been a West Ham player at the end of the transfer window. He was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea though his injury means that he is going nowhere. Carroll is rumoured to be out for up to three months with an ankle injury and although he has not performed well, we need him in the squad.

There’s no doubt that Carroll provides us with a different option in games and allows us to go more direct. Now although many fans have complained about this tactic, there is nothing wrong in this. Just look at Marouane Fellaini at Manchester United. Carroll will be a big miss and with our other strikers underperforming, we are in big trouble.

Marko Arnautovic

This is the most unfortunate of the three injuries and could not have come at a worse time for Arnautovic who could be out for a month. When he was signed for a club record fee, many of us expected him to deliver instantly though he took 12 games to score his first Premier League goal. He was potentially on his way out of the club but his form under David Moyes has been exceptional.

Arnautovic has 6 goals and 3 assists from his last 8 Premier League games and without him, we will struggle to score goals. His injury will benefit Javier Hernandez who has struggled to get minutes.

Will Hernandez step up in Arnautovic’s absence or will we see him fail to perform?
