The FA Cup saw a break in the Premier League action, but it also saw some cup upsets, as Everton, Swansea, Bournemouth and Stoke left the competition. These teams will all be looking to bounce back this weekend with fixtures on both Saturday and Sunday. With a brilliant fixture list this weekend, many will be picking their fantasy football teams, but who should you bring in and who should you avoid? Must Haves

Defence

At the back there are quite a few viable options, with a set of teams who have favourable fixtures. To kick things off we have West Brom visiting Spurs in the lunch time kick off, who are coming off the back of a 2-0 victory against Chelsea last gameweek. If Spurs can keep a clean sheet against Chelsea, then surely they can against the Baggies! Therefore if you want a keeper, Hugo Lloris is your man and if you want to double up in defence, Kyle Walker has picked up 2 assists and 2 clean sheets in his last 4 and is looking like a great pick.

Swansea host Arsenal this week and since they are sitting 19th with a goal difference of -22, it is unlikely that they will grab an unexpected win this week. More likely is an Arsenal clean sheet, especially if they play Shkodran Mustafi, who is yet to lose in an Arsenal shirt! With Wilfried Bony potentially exiting Stoke, it’s hard to see where the Potters are to find their goals (unless it’s from “2 metre Peter”), and therefore Sunderland may just be able to keep a clean sheet. With Patrick van Aanholt’s forward runs, he may just be a must have this week.

Hull City haven’t been in the best of form of late, but one player who always looks likely to find the back of the net is Robert Snodgrass. From a dead ball situation, there aren’t many in the league that are better and he is always likely to provide an assist if he isn’t the goal scorer. He is in a good run of form recently too with 2 goals in 2 games, and Bournemouth have been leaking goals of late, conceding 9 in their last 4. One of the 3 teams to sink 3 past Bournemouth recently are Arsenal and their best player, Alexis Sanchez, was rested during the FA Cup break. With Arsenal playing Swansea this week, we fully expect Sanchez to be raring and ready to go and will likely find the back of the net.

We still find it incredible that Jermain Defoe can score 20+ Premier League goals since the start of 2016 and still struggle to get a call up to the England squad, yet the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Jamie Vardy and co just walk in. Nevertheless, Sunderland face Stoke this week and I wouldn’t bet against him getting on the scoresheet again this week. Last gameweek, Harry Kane took a backseat as Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen proved their worth. However, this week Kane will want to get back to his goal scoring ways and West Brom’s 3 clean sheets in 20 gameweeks makes good reading for those fantasy managers who own him.

Olivier Giroud
Olivier Giroud

One of the most in form players at the moment is the Gunners forward Olivier Giroud, who has scored 3 goals in his last 3 Premier League games, in addition to 2 assists last time out, and he will look to continue this form and nail down a place in Arsenal’s starting eleven. The Frenchman may therefore be one to consider. Shane Long and his Saints colleagues face Burnley this week who are struggling to keep clean sheets. Southampton have been in a bit of a rut of late and will certainly look to come out of this fixture with a win. With Charlie Austin out injured, Long may just be one to bring into your team.

Must Not’s

Defence

With just 2 clean sheets all season, West Ham don’t provide much fantasy football potential at the back. Darren Randolph and his defence have only kept 2 clean sheets in their last 9 and will be facing a tough fixture against Crystal Palace this week. Despite Christian Benteke appearing to love missing sitters, this fixture could see goals from both sides. Another team finding themselves in quite a hole is Swansea and the odds of a clean sheet this gameweek are quite slim, so it would be wise to avoid Lukasz Fabianski, Kyle Naughton and co.

Midfielders

Gylfi Sigurdsson on the other hand has been one of the only few bright sparks from Swansea this season, but with a tough fixture against Arsenal this gameweek, he will be one to avoid. West Brom’s Matt Phillips has been in terrific form of late and although he has some cracking fixtures coming up, this week West Brom take a trip to White Heart Lane. Spurs kept a clean sheet at home against Chelsea last gameweek, which they will look to do again this week and push for the title. Etienne Capoue had a surprising start to the Premier League season and the Watford man couldn’t stop scoring! That train seems to have stopped now though, with no return in 8 games, and he is back where he should be… in the must nots!

Leicester City host Chelsea this week who will be looking to bounce back after the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham. With 10 clean sheets in the last 14 Premier League games, it could be tough for Leicester to find the back of the net, thus it may be wise to steer clear of the likes of Jamie Vardy. West Brom and Salomon Rondon have a tough fixture against Spurs this week, which could see the Baggies struggle to find the back of the net and he may just be one to avoid. Our final must not from the Saturday fixtures is Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson. Although the striker found the net last gameweek, the English striker has only managed 6 goals all season and may struggle this week in a tight affair against Hull City.
