West Ham Fan View: Three things to watch when Hammers face Swansea City

West Ham face Swansea City this Saturday in what will be our 16th away game of the season. We beat Swansea when we faced them in September, winning 1-0. Here are three things to look out for…

Can we recover from the Liverpool defeat?

In my preview for the Liverpool game, I questioned whether we could have stopped Mohamed Salah and the Liverpool attack. The answer, as shown last Saturday, was no. The result wasn’t a surprise, despite our previous big-game performances. Facing Liverpool at Anfield is one of the toughest games for any Premier League team, but we need to recover this weekend.

Whilst our Premier League position is still a good one, two defeats in a row could see relegation fears appear once again. We have have only won once from our last five and there are only 10 games left in the season. We did not expect to beat Liverpool, but a win on Saturday is certainly expected.

Our home form v. our away form

Our home form has been dreadful since moving to the London Stadium. In our first season, we only had seven wins at home and lost eight games. Performances on the pitch did not help the atmosphere in the stadium, though this has changed in recent weeks.

Our improvement in home form has to be replicated in our away form. As it stands, we have only won two from our 15 away games. Swansea, on current form, are one of the worst sides in the Premier League, though our away form means that this will be a tougher game than it should be.

Is Michail Antonio back to his best?

We have bought many wingers over the past few seasons and many have failed, but Michail Antonio was the exception. In his first two seasons he outperformed expectations, winning Hammer of the Year in his second season after scoring nine Premier League goals.

But Antonio has struggled this season and his injuries have meant that he has only started 14 games. When he did play, Antonio did not look as fit or as sharp as we have seen him previously. His intelligent movement and power was not there anymore.

But he made his return from injury at the start of February and scored our only goal of the game against Liverpool, which was his second goal of the season. Is Antonio slowly coming back to his best?
