Irishman Sheehan had a spell as interim head coach with Swansea following the dismissal of Michael Duff around this time last year.
He guided Swansea to three wins in seven Championship matches before Luke Williams was installed as Duff's permanent successor.
Rhys Carr has been put in temporary charge of the east MIdlanders while a full-time manager is sought.
Wycombe Wanderers' head coach Matt Bloomfield is the favourite with bookmakers, with Frank Lampard (4/1), Robbie Keane (7/1), Lee Carsley (8/1) also said to be in frame.
£20m to be invested
The Athletic report that the transfer of control of Swansea from Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien to Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt and Nigel Morris would see more than £20million invested into club.
News emerged on Thursday evening that US majority owners Kaplan and Levien have agreed to sell their stake in the club.
The duo arrived in SA1 in 2016 but now look to be on the verge of departing the club and leaving it in the hands of Coleman, who has been chairman since May 2023.
In a statement, Coleman said: “It is critically important for Swansea City to move on from the previous owners. I want to thank Brett Cravatt, Jason Cohen, Nigel Morris and our partners for coming together to make that happen. Together we are bringing more than £20 million directly into the club. This gives us a great foundation to drive Swansea City forward.”

Jardim's hopes for Swans
Meanwhile, former Swansea coach Nelson Jardim says he hopes his old employers will find their way back to the Premier League following the news of the imminent ownership change in Landore.
Jardim, now in charge of Newport County, first worked at Swansea under Paulo Sousa and returned as first-team coach during the reigns of Francesco Guidolin, Paul Clement and Carlos Carvahal.
Jardim still has strong feelings for the club and says he hopes new investment and a fresh direction will help them return to the top flight.
“The club is important for the city and the country and hopefully they will find that right track, because Swansea belongs to the Premier League and hopefully they will go back," said Jardim to the BBC.
“I don’t hide my feelings," he added. "The club is close to my heart because of my past good years there. It is such a big club and and important club for me and my family.”
