Southampton have had the last laugh following their hotel hell – leaving a scathing one-star Trip Advisor review!

The Saints’ preparation for their crucial trip to Swansea City was thrown into chaos when their Marriott Hotel booking was cancelled the day before.

The chain claim it was due to a virus but the club soon rumbled them and discovered other guests’ stays we not affected.

Saints manager Mark Hughes was fuming as the club were forced to stay in Cardiff instead for Tuesday night’s massive match.

Mystery surrounds why exactly the booking was cancelled – but it didn’t have a big impact on the strugglers.

They won the relegation six pointer at the Liberty Stadium 1-0 and are all-but safe while the Swans are facing up to the Championship unless they can overhaul Huddersfield Town on the final day.

Southampton got down to work this morning and left a comical review before posting it on social media.

Giving their stay one-star – purely because a zero rating wasn’t an option – they posted: “Had been due to stay here for an extremely important business trip, only to have our reservation cancelled 24 hours before due to an apparent outbreak.

“Very disappointing as other guests’ bookings seemed to be unaffected.

“Fortunately, the experience didn’t sour our trip. Business meeting was extremely productive!

“We’re not planning to return any time soon.”

Only a last day collapse will stop the Saints playing Premier League football next season, with a nine goal swing needed to see them relegated to the Championship.
