It appears Gareth Southgate hasn’t suddenly just become football’s Mr Nice Guy since things got rather good for England.

Supporters have been taking to twitter to post pictures of the polite letters the Three Lions manager has taken the time to write them.

Most from his playing days, the well-mannered England coach wasn’t one to ignore supporters – even when things weren’t going well.

Fans have been rifling through their paperwork to dig-out Southgate’s wonderful words – with him often sending signed pictures to make up for any delay in writing back.

Southgate’s considerate responses to fans have only added to the 47-year-old’s likeability levels ahead of Saturday’s World Cup quarter final with Sweden.

Fan Tom Duggan penned a supportive letter to the then Aston Villa star following his penalty miss against Germany at Euro 96.

The central defender wrote back: “Thank you for your letter following the European Championship. My apologies for not replying sooner, but as you can imagine, things have been quite hectic!

“I just wanted to thank you for your kind words which were a great help to me during a difficult time. Your support is greatly appreciated.”

More letters have been unearthed following the twitter tend #GarethSouthgateWould

In another hand-written reply, the former Middlesbrough man responded to a schoolgirl getting in touch.

Teacher Simon Blower uploaded his memory and it read: “One of your pupils has written to me to say you are leaving Pannal School and also that you are a loyal Middlesbrough supporter.

“’I am writing this prior to the game with Newcastle which will have probably impacted on your class in the past few days – let’s hope it was in a positive way!

“Good luck for the future and clearly you have made a big impression on Ellie and the rest of the class.”
