16-4A coaches name Lauren Wade district's Most Valuable Player

Apr. 17—Jacksonville High School-sophomore Lauren Wade has been voted as the District 16-4A Most Valuable Player.

Wade helped guide her Fightin' Maiden team to a district championship and a regional quarterfinal appearance in the Class 4A, Region II playoffs this past season.

Other superlative winners from Jacksonville included senior Landry Harmel, who nabbed Defender of the Year accolades and freshman Jackie Badillo, who was voted as the Offensive Newcomer of the Year.

Four Maidens were selected for first team honors.

That group included Victoria Villanueva, Jewel McCullough, Clara Guillan and Sophia Romero.

Second team picks from Jacksonville were Alexa Medellin, Arely Romero, Jizelle Castillo and Mariana Arredondo.

A trio of Maidens, Itzel Arredondo, Evelyn Lara and Emily Barerra, garnered honorable mention recognition.
