2024 Paris Olympics swimming: Katie Ledecky takes gold in 1500m freestyle, Leon Marchand wins two golds in historic night

Ledecky set a new Olympic record and won by more than 10 seconds

The swimming program at the 2024 Paris Olympics is in full swing, and it was a huge day in the pool for the sport's biggest stars on Wednesday in Paris.

In her signature race, Katie Ledecky took home gold once again, winning with 1500m freestyle in a time of 15:30.2. That's a new Olympic record and the eighth best time of all-time in the event — all of the top 10 times belong to Ledecky. It's also the eighth Olympic gold medal for Ledecky, who now has 12 Olympic medals. The eight golds and 12 overall medals now have her tied for the most ever by an American woman.

Also making the medal stand for Team USA was Torri Huske, who was a surprise silver medalist in the 200m butterfly. It's her second medal of these Paris Games, after winning the 100m freestyle.

    After a simply thrilling comeback victory to take home a gold medal in the 200m butterfly, Marchand will look to win two individual gold medals on the same day. He had a top qualifying time and will be in Lane 4 in the middle of the pool, swimming next to Australia's Zac Stubblety-Cook, who set the Olympic record when he took home gold in this event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
