2024 Paris Olympics swimming: Katie Ledecky takes gold in 1500m freestyle, Leon Marchand wins two golds in historic night

Leon Marchand, Katie Ledecky, Sarah Sjöström and Zhanle Pan had amazing nights, taking home gold in Paris. It was an incredible night in the pool at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.

• Marchand, in front of a home French crowd, won two gold medals, including setting an Olympic record in the 200m breaststroke

• Ledecky added another top-10 all-time effort in the 1500m freestyle, winning gold to match Team USA women's records of 12 medals and eight golds

• Pan set a new world record in the men's 100m freestyle

• Sjöström became the oldest woman to win the women's 100m freestyle

Pan swam the race of his life to establish a new record for the fastest 100m, holding off Australian Kyle Chalmers who took silver. Americans Jack Alexy and Chris Guilano came home seventh and eighth.

Marchand sets a new Olympic record of 2:05.85 in front of an electric crowd in Paris. With the victory, he becomes the first French swimmer to win three gold medals.

After a simply thrilling comeback victory to take home a gold medal in the 200m butterfly, Marchand will look to win two individual gold medals on the same day. He had a top qualifying time and will be in Lane 4 in the middle of the pool, swimming next to Australia's Zac Stubblety-Cook, who set the Olympic record when he took home gold in this event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Ledecky set a new Olympic record with the gold medal performance in a time of 15:30.2. Its the eighth Olympic gold medal for Ledecky, who has now won the women's 1500m in both Olympics it has been held.

Nearly 1100 meters into the race, and Ledecky jas a better than 15 second lead on the rest of the field. A coronation was expected, and the greatest women's swimmer in US history is delivering in her signature event

Ledecky has long been the best in the world at this event, having held the world record for more than a decade and owning all of the top 15 times ever in the event. Early in the race, at the 150m mark she's slightly ahead of her own world record pace.

Trailing in the final 25 meters, Marchand willed himself to an Olympic record, blazing past Hungary's Kristof Milak to take home gold for the second time in these Paris Olympics.

In a surprise, Huske makes the medal platform for the second time in Paris as favorite Mollie O'Callaghan finishes just off the podium.

From Team USA Gretchen Walsh (two silver medals in Paris) and Torri Huske (one gold in Paris) are the Americans who are looking to upset Mollie O'Callaghan for Australia, who is the big favorite to win. She set an Olympic Record in the 200m freestyle in winning a gold medal on Monday.

Multiple swimmers, including two members of Team USA have tested positive for COVID-19 at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The virus is not being treated the same as it was in 2021 at the Tokyo Games, but the two U.S. athletes have been sent to a hotel to quarantine away from the Olympic Viillage.

Torri Huske and Gretchen Walsh are looking to get back on the medal stand for Team USA after finishing 1-2 in the 100m butterfly on Sunday.
