Liverpool finds itself in a tricky conundrum as the January transfer window approaches - does it stick or twist?

Arne Slot has led the Reds to the top of the Premier League and Champions League standings after a remarkable start to life at Anfield, but there’s still a long way to go before anything is decided. And if he is to mark his debut season with some silverware, he may well need to strengthen his options in the New Year.

With Chelsea breathing down Liverpool’s neck, it might well be the ideal time to bolster the title push, and there have already been some potential options that showed the Reds exactly what they could bring to the party.

Liverpool.com has rounded up five players the Reds have already faced this season that could help Slot’s side to the Premier League title with a January transfer.

Antonee Robinson

If Antonee Robinson is hoping for a move to Anfield - and he seems to have hinted that he might be - then he certainly did his chances no harm on Saturday. The USMNT star was electric down the left for Fulham, and kept Mohamed Salah under wraps for the most part, which is no mean feat.

He will be 28 at the start of next season though, which - as the Daily Mail suggests - might work against him. Liverpool generally goes for a younger profile of player, looking to maximize on their output and any potential sale in the future. If the Reds want an immediate replacement for Andy Robertson though, they could do much worse than Robinson.

Milos Kerkez

Robinson might not quite fit the bill, but Milos Kerkez certainly does. At just 21, he still has a good few years ahead of him before he even reaches his peak.

Even in Bournemouth’s 3-0 defeat at Anfield in September, Kerkez still impressed, and he’s already well known to those inside Liverpool. An international teammate of Dominik Szoboszlai, he was of course signed by the Reds’ sporting director Richard Hughes during his time on the south coast, and the Daily Mail has also suggested he caught the eye of Slot while he was playing for AC Milan.

It’s a signing that makes a lot of sense for Liverpool, especially now it looks as though it needs to be looking at an heir to Robertson. Kerkez looks to be an ideal option.

Jeremie Frimpong

Conor Bradley does seem ready to step into Trent Alexander-Arnold’s shoes should the Liverpool vice-captain depart for Real Madrid in the summer. If the Reds are looking for an equally attacking option down the right though, they may have already seen the answer against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.

In fact, Jeremie Frimpong might be an even more attacking outlet, given he does operate as a wing-back in Germany. Would that work for Liverpool and Slot, or would the more conventional option of Bradley suit them better? Only time will tell, but recent reports have suggested that Frimpong’s agent was invited to Anfield for that Champions League clash.

Bryan Mbeumo

While it’s the usual suspects of Salah, Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer leading the race for the Premier League’s golden boot, the player directly behind them has gone a little under the radar.

Bryan Mbeumo now has 10 league goals for Brentford this season, and he continues to impress in Thomas Frank’s side. He might not have got much reward in their 2-0 defeat at Anfield in August, but he is a hard-working, left-footed right-winger, which fits the bill nicely for the Reds.

Reports have suggested Liverpool is monitoring Mbeumo, and at 25, he might be seen as a potential heir to Salah’s throne.

Murillo

Nottingham Forest’s current position in the table is quite astonishing, and though Chris Wood might get a lot of the headlines for his goals, their remarkable form is built upon a solid defense, with Murillo right at the heart of it.

The Brazilian has been linked with Liverpool already of course, although nothing come of those reports earlier in the year. Nevertheless, he continues to be touted as an option, especially with Virgil van Dijk’s future still up in the air.

Slot needs no reminding of what Murillo and Forest did at Anfield in September - that solitary defeat on his record still rankles with the Liverpool boss. If it he found a new center-back as a result though, it might well have just been worth it.
