Nils Koppen has revealed one of Rangers' key objectives going forward is to sign at least ONE player from another Scottish club per season.

The director of football recruitment at the Ibrox was part of a hectic summer schedule at the club for Philippe Clement as they looked high and low for fresh talent to come in the door while also bringing down their wage bill. They successful did that with the likes of John Lundstram, Todd Cantwell, Borna Barisic and Connor Goldson just a few of a host of names to head out with players like Connor Barron, Jefte, Robin Propper and Hamza Igamane coming into the Ibrox dressing room.

Transfer recruitment is key at any club and over the years Rangers may have looked further afield than close to home in order to bag new talent. Barron is one that arrived this summer from Aberdeen and has established himself as a key player in Clement's ranks. During Steven Gerrard's reign he brought in the likes of Jake Hastie from Motherwell and Scott Wright from the Dons. He also bagged Glen Kamara from Dundee in a £50K deal after he penned a pre-contract and he went on to be a big player for the Ibrox side. John Souttar was another who arrived from league rivals Hearts and it goes to show that recruiting from inside Scotland can be a successful tool and it is one the men from Govan aim to use more often.

Speaking previously Koppen revealed: “It’s one of our objectives, to try and sign one player a season from another Scottish club if they’re there and the deal makes sense and it fits the plan." With that message from the Rangers chief in mind, Record Sport have picked out FIVE transfer targets the Ibrox club could look to bring on board as the Belgian plots an annual raid on Premiership rivals.

Lennon Miller - Motherwell

He's a real rising star and arguably the most talked about one in Scottish football at the moment. A number of pundits and professionals have already expressed that Rangers and Celtic should be looking at the youngster.

Jamie Murphy was the latest last week to endorse the 18-year-old. He reckons he will leave Motherwell 'sooner rather than later' and has told his old club they should be one of the clubs who should be watching him with interest.

Contracted until 2026, he will move into the final year of his contract next summer and should he not agree fresh terms, the Steelmen may be tempted to cash in on their prized asset. At just 18, he has already played 50 first-team games at Fir Park and has also picked up international honours - and found the net - for the Scotland Under-21s.

Rangers have previously raided Motherwell for young talent in the shape of Bailey Rice. It would be one that would not only allow them to further aid his development but could also look to net a big profit down the line. He may come at an initial cost but the bigger picture could make that initial investment more than worthwhile.

Lawrence Shankland - Hearts

It is a transfer saga or murmur or whatever else you want to call it that seems to never go away. Rangers have been linked to the Jambos star striker in pretty much every window in the past couple of seasons.

The Scotland international - who enjoyed two incredible scoring seasons in Gorgie - may not be hitting top form just yet but he has an eye for goal and the arrival of Neil Critchley may be the positive spark that gets him firing again. That could be good and bad news in Gorgie with the hitman able to sign a pre-contract elsewhere in January with his deal up in the summer.

This may be the chance for Philippe Clement to swoop in and make his move for a striker who has proved he has the pedigree in Scotland to bag plenty of goals. The fact it could be a free or a small fee if he does sign a pre-contract and they wanted to do the deal early is something that might prove attractive.

The pros and cons of the signing include his goal record and experience but the flip of that coin would be the lack of sell-on value with the striker turning 30 next summer. However, the potential for a free transfer could be the big pro that outweighs the cons.

Lyall Cameron - Dundee

The 22-year-old has impressed for Dundee and after watching his pal Luke McCowan join Celtic, he could be the next one to earn a big move from Dens.

Former Rangers man Andy Halliday - now on the books at Motherwell - reckons he is the next one to be plucked from the Dark Blues and he's told his old club to go and sign him.

The Scotland Under-21 international is out of contract in the summer meaning a pre-contract agreement can come as early as January. That could then involve a fee to land him there and then or wait for the summer with a development compensation fee.

Tony Docherty will be desperate to keep him for a while yet and no doubt be working around the clock to try and agree fresh terms. But he is another that could fit into the develop and sell on model that Rangers want to get moving at Ibrox. At just 22, he has already played over 100 senior games between Dundee, Peterhead and and Montrose.

David Watson - Kilmarnock

Over 70 appearances in Kilmarnock's top team and continuing to develop under Derek McInnes. It may be one that catches the eye of Rangers. By January he will be in his final 18 months and then 12 months by the summer if he stays in Ayrshire.

Should a new contract not be agreed, that may tempted Killie to look to do a deal should the money on offer be right. The 19-year-old has been a key man this season for McInnes and picked up experience in Europe. He played in both Europa League and Conference League qualifiers.

It is yet to be known if he will face Rangers this weekend with the club confirming an update on their squad ahead of welcoming Philippe Clement and his troops. It reads: "David Watson is being managed after picking up a shoulder injury prior to the international break, he will be assessed over the weekend."

Still a teenager, he would offer the desired development and sell on for a big profit scenario. The central midfielder has two league goals to his name so far with a double against Dundee United.Jack MacKenzie - Aberdeen

Competition for places is never a bad thing and the left-back would be able to battle it out with Jefte. Clubs down south are already showing interest in the Dons defender.

He was rewarded for his early season form with a call-up to Steve Clarke's squad for the Nations League double-header with Croatia and Portugal. He never got on the pitch but international honours may well be next up for the 24-year-old with another camp in November.

He is a free agent in the summer meaning he could leave for nothing at the end of the campaign, if he doesn't pen a new deal. Like others mentioned above, he could also pen a pre-contract elsewhere come January and that could also force the Dons into bagging a fee rather than nothing.

A new deal for MacKenzie is a priority for the Dons, but as things stand nothing has been agreed. He's been instrumental to Jimmy Thelin's men in their winning run since he took over. He will be a key player at Celtic Park this weekend.

The Swede said earlier this month with regards to the full-back and Jamie McGrath: "The dialogue with the club is good. Steven is making that progress. Let’s see what will happen but I can’t speak for the players. There is a process there.”
