Acun Ilicali makes Hull City January transfer guarantee after Ruben Selles statement
Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has promised Hull City supporters they will not be disappointed by the club's January transfer business, with the club chairman determined to give his new manager the support he needs.
Ilicali was speaking alongside new City boss Ruben Selles as the Tigers manager was unveiled to the press at the MKM Stadium. While the ex-Reading boss was keen to relay his philosophy on how he will approach the City job and Ilicali was keen to reinforce why the former Southampton manager was his number one candidate, the questions inevitably turned to next month and an opportunity for Selles to tweak his squad with the transfer window opening.
The new City boss has already told sporting director Jared Dublin and the board that he would prefer a smaller squad to work with and with that in mind it is quality rather than quality which the club are aiming for when the window opens in 21 days. Discussing the squad that was built in the summer for Tim Walter, Ilicali says City's issue is not the players assembled but the lack of confidence within the squad.

It's that change which he hopes Selles can bring, but the owner admits recruitment will be important too and in that regard, Ilicali has a message for supporters.
"I don't think our squad is bad. The confidence is lost, but we lost two important wingers and we are like a bird without wings at the moment," said Ilicali.
"We have been working on January. Quality is our first priority, not quantity. We have some things on our table. It is too early to speak about recruitment but I can guarantee to Hull City fans that January will be very good for us."
Selles is keen to asses his squad over the coming weeks and won't rush into snap judgements on players or what is needed in January, with the threat of relegation not a factor in City's planning. The Tigers may be bottom of the Championship as things stand but as Ilicali explains, he is not worried about the club's position and it had no baring on his decision to appoint the Spaniard, who has no experience of the Championship, let alone a Championship relagtion fight.
Ilicali added; "If I had a fear of being relegated I wouldn't go with a young manager who had never managed in the Championship. The future is what is important for us.
"There were some options for saving us and fully experienced coaches, but I didn't care about that. I wanted the long term perfect coach for us and that is why Ruben is here."
