Al Ettifaq 'makes Steven Gerrard decision' as Liverpool legend's winless run extended again

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been under pressure to get improved results with Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, with his side now having gone seven matches without a win.

But according to GiveMeSport, the Al Ettifaq board has decided to retain faith in Gerrard and believes that he can turn things around. Al Ettifaq lost 3-1 to the Saudi champion Al-Hilal on Friday and has fallen to 11th place in the table. This year, it has only won three fixtures to date.

Gerrard supposedly has a strong relationship with Al Ettifaq head of football Hatim Al-Misehal, who is "intent on being patient" with the former Liverpool captain. Last season's sixth place finish was said to have been viewed as a "significant success" and the club is only three points behind that position with 24 matches left to play.

Over the summer, Gerrard added former Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg to his ranks and has continued to build his team. Money is expected to be available to him to buy more players in January.

Although some fans booed Gerrard at full-time when Al Ettifaq lost to Al Qadsiah last week, others showed their support for him by holding up a "You'll Never Walk Alone" banner. There has been some talk that Gerrard could return to Rangers where he won the Scottish Premiership before moving to Aston Villa.

Liverpool.com says: Gerrard being in Saudi Arabia still doesn't feel quite right. He was always joining a difficult project by moving to one of the lesser sides in terms of status and financial backing. While things haven't gone well this season, there is no rush for him to get things right. With the likes of Gini Wijnaldum and Jack Hendry among his roster, there are some decent players to work with.
