Former Newcastle star Kieron Dyer has revealed Alan Shearer once threatened to 'flatten' Craig Bellamy after the Wales forward had sent him a cheeky text shortly after being bombed out on loan to Celtic.

Bellamy had scored 51 times in 167 games for the Magpies but was quickly moved on by boss Graeme Souness after a controversial incident before a match against Arsenal at Highbury in January 2005. Scotland and Rangers hero Souness decided to leave the striker out of his 18-man squad for the game, claiming that Bellamy had picked up a hamstring problem.

However, following the 1-0 defeat, Souness changed his tune by claiming in his post match interview that Bellamy was omitted from the squad because he did not want to play as a right-sided midfielder. Minutes later, future Liverpool and Manchester City wide man Bellamy then spoke to the media to tell his version of events and stated that he would be willing to play in any position for Newcastle but subsequently admitted that he had feigned an injury in a training session in the build-up to the Arsenal game.

Days later, Bellamy hit out at Souness by claiming he had lied to him, and his manager responded by fining the forward two weeks; wages and vowing that Bellamy would never play for Newcastle again. Bellamy soon teamed up with Martin O'Neill at Parkhead in a six-month loan deal later that month and went onto help Celtic win the Scottish Cup, bagging nine goals in 15 matches in all competitions.

But still feeling bitter about his acrimonious departure from St James' Park, it's claimed Bellamy sent an unpleasant text to Newcastle skipper Alan Shearer - who he blamed for grassing him up to Sounness at Highbury - after the Magpies had lost 4-1 to Manchester United in the semi final of the FA Cup in April 2005. Speaking on the Open Goal podcast, ex midfielder and 33-time England cap Dyer said: "Bellamy must have text him (Shearer) as Al came up to me and basically said 'I am going to flatten your mate.'

"We had just lost in the FA Cup semi-final and it got a bit messy with him saying 'you can come to my house' and you can imagine. But I think Al had every right to because he had just lost an FA Cup semi-final.

"Bellerz was in his early 20s and when you are like that you are immature. Bellez probably thought he (Shearer) had grassed him up and thought this is a good time to give him banter. But obviously the banter was wrong.

"I bet if he spoke to Bellerz now he will (still) say it. I would never say they were best friends but they were colleagues who never had any friction. But I would not liked to have got that text after losing the FA Cup semi-final."
