Alexandro Bernabei could be priced OUT of Celtic exit as eye-watering asking price revealed
Alexandro Bernabei could be priced out of a return to South America by Celtic, according to reports.
The Argentine left-back, 24, has resurrected his career in Brazil after being farmed out on loan to Internacional in March. Bernabei - a £3.75million signing from Atletico Lanus in 2022 - has been deemed surplus to requirements at Parkhead after failing to make the grade under both Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers.
And despite putting in a string of impressive displays with loan club Internacional, Portal Colorado claims Celts are only willing to sanction a permanent move if they receive around £8.3m for the defender - which would see them more than DOUBLE their initial outlay.
While Bernabei only managed 24 appearances for the Hoops, the full-back has caught the eye in Brazil’s top flight and has five goal contributions in his last five appearances - scoring in the recent 2-2 derby draw against Corinthians.
Unsurprisingly, Internacional are keen to keep the reborn star beyond the end of the year but reports in South America suggest they'll have to stump up to land Bernaebi on a permanent deal. Inter president Alessandro Barcellos has already admitted that Celtic's asking price is "unaffordable" but the Serie A outfit could attempt to extend his loan deal.
It's understood Bernabei is keen to stay at Beira-Rio and his representatives are attempting to convince Parkhead chiefs to sanction a deal. Bernabei has ambitions to play in the prestigious Copa Libertadores but would have to rely on Celts softening their current stance.
