Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has offered an injury update on Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who sat out the win over Bournemouth in the Premier League last weekend with a minor muscle problem.

Ahead of the Carabao Cup tie against West Ham United at Anfield tomorrow, Slot has confirmed that Alisson faces a race against time to be fit for the weekend's clash with Wolves. "It is sure that Caoimhin Kelleher will play tomorrow," Slot said. "Alisson, we are looking for the weekend against Wolves but it will be tight. Kelleher will be in goal tomorrow; that's the one thing I know for sure at the moment."

Kelleher deputized for Alisson last Saturday and performed well, keeping a clean sheet despite facing around one expected goal across the course of the 90 minutes. The Irishman will be hoping to get the domestic cups regardless.

Liverpool has already agreed to bring in Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili in during the summer of 2025, with Kelleher suggesting during the previous international break that he still wants to move on for more regular action.

"I made it clear in the last few years that I want to go somewhere and be a number one," he said during a press conference. "The club has made that decision to get a goalkeeper (Mamardashvili) which makes it look like they’ve made a decision to go in another direction.

"Liverpool have rejected a few bids as well. It’s not always in my hands to fully make the decision. My ambition is clear. I’m good enough and I want to go and play week in, week out."

Liverpool.com says: Alisson is the best in the world at what he does and the only drawback with him is the injury problems that he seems to pick up far more often than anyone else in that position. While Mamardashvili is a great long-term successor to Alisson and he looks like a really promising addition, Liverpool should be keeping its current number one for as long as possible.
