Alisson Becker shares Liverpool injury update with social media message

Alisson Becker is counting down the days until he is able to return to action. The Liverpool goalkeeper has broken his silence as he steps up his recovery during the international break.

The calibre the Reds have been playing at in recent weeks, you would be forgiven for forgetting that their first-choice goalkeeper has been absent through injury. This is down to the commendable contributions of back-up choice Caoimhin Kelleher that have helped elevate the team to the top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables.

Alisson first picked up a small hamstring problem five matches into the 2024/25 season and missed meetings with Bournemouth (Premier League) and West Ham (Carabao Cup). He was fit for the next three matches, but in the final one - away to Crystal Palace on the eve of the October international break - he went down clutching the back of his leg after making a clearance.

"Alisson is for sure not with us in the upcoming weeks," Arne Slot admitted after the break. "It's a big blow for him and us, because he did really well this season and for so many years. The good thing is Caoimh (Kelleher) did really well, so we have a good replacement, but you always want all of your players available."

The day of the injury Kelleher was ill, so 23-year-old Vitezslav Jaros made his senior debut, then the former has taken over Premier League duties since. He has kept three clean sheets and made several key saves to ensure Liverpool have got partway through a difficult fixture list unbeaten.

It will be the head coach's discretion when Alisson returns to the starting line-up, as harsh as that would be on Kelleher. The No.1 certainly has his sights on reclaiming his spot for the visit to Southampton on November 24, after the latest international break.

The 32-year-old has kept reasonably quiet during his recovery, but his latest social media activity can only be a full reference to the number of days decreasing until he is able to play again.

Posting to his Instagram stories on Monday, he shared with followers a selfie sitting in the rather empty gym at the AXA Training Centre, complete with the caption: "-1," along with a sand timer emoji.
