Alistair Johnston and Matt O'Riley among Champions League elite as Celtic star named on top 10 list

Alistair Johnston has been named in the top 10 list of Champions League tackles made this season.

The Celtic defender had a strong campaign for the club despite their eventual elimination from the group stages with the likes of Lazio and Atletico Madrid making the knockout rounds and Feyenoord dropping into the Europa League in a third-place finish. There were some difficult results for the Hoops - including Lazio's last minute win at Parkhead - but Johnston has been credited among the tournament's elite on the list.

The Canadian managed 20 successful tackles from just six appearances according to stats compiled by Transfermarkt. Johnston finished eighth on the list with a higher average than Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich and Ernesto Valverde of Real Madrid.

He was tied with Nicolas Otamendi and Quinten Timber of Benfica and Feyenoord respectively.

Dortmund's superstar Mats Hummels topped the list with 41 tackles from just 10 games but the German is likely to surpass that number given he and the club are still competing in the semi-finals against PSG.

Meanwhile Matt O'Riley finished ninth in the top 10 of assists providers with three from his six fixtures including a terrific pass for Kyogo against Atleti.
