Ange Postecoglou mercilessly mocked in Spurs 'sponge cake task'

An English comedian has published a sketch light-heartedly mocking former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou's steadfast approach to football management.

Throughout his time in Glasgow, and indeed since his move down south in taking charge of English Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, the Australian admirably stuck by his principles on the pitch, showcased best by aggressive, attractive, attacking football.

This was well received during his two years in the city's east end, during which time Postecoglou secured five out-of-six trophies for the Parkhead side, including a domestic treble in his second and final campaign.

Since moving to the English Premier League, however, some critics have suggested the Australian's perceived lack of tactical pragmatism has cost his side in some instances – something the 59-year-old has vociferously contested at every turn.

In his latest tongue-in-cheek skit, Michael Spicer imagines a defiant Postecoglou on BBC reality show Master Chef, whereby the Spurs manager refuses to make anything but sponge cakes despite the briefing asking for other dishes.

The replies to the skit on X (formerly Twitter) have received the joke well – including a raft of Tottenham fans and Australians alike.

One said: "As a long suffering Spurs season ticket holder I’m loving this."

While another said: "As a Spurs fan... I approve. This is spot on."

Another proclaimed their love of Ange, of his so-called 'Angeball' style of play, and of the skit itself.

One other said: "As an Australian, and big Ange fan for years… spot on Michael."
