Ange Postecoglou has the perfect opportunity to finally grant Tottenham fans their wish
Tottenham fans have made it perfectly clear that they want to see more of Archie Gray in Ange Postecoglou's midfield. Signed from Leeds United in a big-money move at the start of July, the 18-year-old has so far made 11 appearances in all competitions for his new club.
Six of those have comes as starts in both the Europa League and Carabao Cup, with his other five outings coming as a substitute in the Premier League. Gray's long-term position is seen as central midfield, but the vast majority of his football in his senior career to date has come as a right-back.
Flourishing in the role for Daniel Farke's Leeds team prior to his Spurs switch, Gray has lined up at both right-back and left-back for Postecoglou and also even operated as a centre-back in Europe for the team. However, it is expected to be in the middle of the park where Gray really makes a name for himself in the years ahead.

Competition is fierce for a place as Tottenham's No.6 as the Durham-born ace is up against both Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma for a starting berth. Bentancur's seven-match domestic suspension could open up the door for Gray to get his chance in the weeks ahead, though.
Although the Uruguayan is eligible to feature for Tottenham in the upcoming Europa League games against Roma and Rangers, it won't be until Boxing Day away at Nottingham Forest when he can take to the field in a Premier League game once again. Spurs have nine fixtures on the calendar before then and it is highly unlikely Bissouma will start in all of those games in such a short space of time.
The midweek game against Bournemouth in December could present Postecoglou with the opportunity to trial Gray in midfield and the same possibly goes for either the Southampton or Manchester United Carabao Cup fixture in the middle of the month. Gray more than proved that he can mix it with the Premier League's best after a sparkling display for Leeds against Chelsea in the FA Cup last February.
He now just needs the opportunity to show that he can do it in a Tottenham shirt, which could now possibly arrive in light of Bentancur's domestic suspension. Speaking in an exclusive interview with football.london last month, the England Under-21s international revealed that it doesn't matter where he plays on the pitch right now as it will only help his football education in the long run.
"I'm just enjoying it and wherever I get put on the pitch I'll just try to do my best," he explained. "Every day in training wherever I am playing on the pitch I'll just try and learn as much as I can because ultimately I am an 18-year-old and it doesn't matter where I play now. As long as I can learn loads of different roles then hopefully it will help me in the future.
"When you play different positions you understand that position. And especially when you go back into whichever position you prefer or wherever you play in a different game, you understand what you want from that position as well. Say I play central midfield in one game and have played right-back before, you understand what the right-back wants of you and also what the centre-back wants because you've played in those positions.
"It's just really useful to understand what they want and where you need to be in those positions and I think it just helps my overall game and the understanding. Like I said, I'll just keep learning those positions."
Going on his experience across defence so far this season, Gray may excel in midfield when given the chance because of what he has picked up from his spells at full-back and centre-back. Spurs supporters are desperate to see him in midfield and Postecoglou may just grant them their wish in the weeks ahead.
