Darwin Nunez has admitted that he gets angry when he misses chances in front of goal. The Uruguayan forward has turned a corner in recent weeks following his inclusion in the starting XI after an injury to Diogo Jota.

After a difficult start to life under Arne Slot, Nunez has now bagged two goals and gained himself an assist in recent fixtures. Nunez struggled to make an impact in the first few months of the new campaign, with the 25-year-old starting just one game and scoring a solitary goal.

Losses to personnel in forward areas, such as Jota, and the ongoing absence of new-signing Federico Chiesa, has allowed Nunez to manoeuvre himself into a regular starting spot with the Reds. However, his performances have now cemented him as a key asset in the Reds' recent charge to the summit of the Premier League and Champions League league phase.

The ex-Benfica striker scored Liverpool's first goal in last weekend's vital 2-0 win at Aston Villa and was responsible for the only strike in the 1-0 win at Red Bull Leipzig. However, in what is now a familiar sight to the Anfield faithful, he has still been guilty of missing clear-cut chances - and he has insisted that his inconsistency in front of goal frustrates him as much as it does the fans.

"It’s normal to get annoyed when you fail at scoring," Nunez told Telemundo after the win over Villa, which established Liverpool's five-point lead at the top of the table. "When I fail, I get angry at myself, but I keep working, learning from my mistakes. Nobody is perfect. I’m gonna keep working to help the team.

"If you don’t know how to deal with failure, the opportunities to score will disappear. You have to be consistent and keep trying."

There had been rumours in recent months that Barcelona were ready to swoop for the forward in January. However Nunez has insisted that he is fully focused on Liverpool and his goal of winning the Premier League with the Reds.

"Happy about the goal. Happy about the work we have been doing," he said. "This is teamwork. We have been doing a good job and we have to keep it going.

"I focus on Liverpool, not other teams. We have to keep working hard. I hope we can achieve our goal of winning the season. And I hope to celebrate it with the fans."

Slot has frequently said since his arrival at the club that Nunez does feature in his long-term plans. Speaking ahead of the Premier League clash with Bournemouth in September, the Dutchman claimed his No. 27 would see his minutes on the pitch increase should he work hard in training.

"There’s a lot of confidence in him," Slot said. "But there are two players for that position and I could even come up with more, who could play in that position. He’s in competition with Diogo, who’s done really well. But many games have to be played and there will be enough time to judge Darwin, if he improves and how he improves and if he can do special things for the club.”

Nunez then scored in the Bournemouth win, netting his first goal of the season, clearly responding to Slot's motivational talk. The Uruguayan international is calm about his current time on the pitch however and claimed he is enjoying life under Liverpool's new head coach.

"The team has many good players," Nunez said. "Arne is doing a good job. When we get to play, even if it’s only 10-15 minutes, we do a good job because he is a good coach, positive and helpful."
