Roy Keane has slammed Alejandro Garnacho and believes that the forward should get a "job somewhere else" if he can't celebrate scoring for Manchester United. The 20-year-old netted United's third during their 3-0 win over Leicester on Sunday but produced a muted celebration in front of the Stretford End at Old Trafford.

It came a matter of days after Garnacho was involved in a brief altercation with a supporter before United's 2-0 victory against PAOK in the Europa League, with the fan telling the Argentina international that he should "pass better" and "work on his first touch". Garnacho continued to sign autographs before glancing back in the direction of the fan in question and said: "Why are you not playing, man?"

Garnacho, who is United's top scorer with seven goals in 18 appearances this season, has also faced criticism from some United fans due to his failure to convert big chances and a section of the fanbase have questioned his decision making in the final third at times. That and the altercation with the United supporter contributed to Garnacho not celebrating his fine strike against Leicester.

Former United captain Keane feels that Garnacho should have put the incident with the fan aside, however, and celebrated with the supporters inside Old Trafford. "If you can't celebrate a goal, there is something drastically wrong with this game," Keane told the Stick to Football podcast. "Whatever has gone on off the pitch for any player – it could be family stuff – you work all week, you’re playing the game to score a goal.

"When you score a goal, there should be nothing else on your mind. You've got fans who have travelled, paid fortunes to get there, and he's [Alejandro Garnacho] on about people having a go at him. People make sacrifices to travel to watch Manchester United, he scores a brilliant goal, they are having a tough time – and if a younger player can’t enjoy scoring a goal for Man United, then get a job somewhere else."

Meanwhile, United skipper Bruno Fernandes offered his explanation to Garnacho's lack of celebration after the game. Speaking to the BBC, he said: "Garnacho scored a banger but didn't celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans. I told him people will always moan but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do. I told him to celebrate, it was something special.

"He is a special player, we have difference makers. They are the ones who win us games. We want them to score every game but that isn’t going to happen."

After the international break, Garnacho will have a new manager to work with at United. Ruben Amorim has started his tenure as the new boss at Old Trafford and will take charge of his first game against Ipswich later this month. There is uncertainty whether Garnacho will be named in his first-choice XI, however.

Amorim typically used a 3-4-3 or a 3-4-2-1 formation during his time at Sporting CP and Garnacho has been tipped to be used in either one of his two No.10s or as a wing-back in the system.
