Anthony Gordon opens up on private talks after Liverpool links as new transfer details emerge
Anthony Gordon has dismissed talk of being on the brink of a summer move to Liverpool as "nonsense" and thanked Eddie Howe for making a quick move to reassure him he was going nowhere.
As the deadline ticked down towards the dreaded PSR health check in the Premier League, with Euro 2024 in full flow and Gordon in Germany at Euro 2024, a swap plus cash deal for Reds defender Jarell Quansah was heavily mooted. It's believed there was a discussion but talk of parting with the Kirkdale-born winger was a goer was blasted by Howe last week and the inking of a new contract all but shuts down suggestions he could play elsewhere.
After signing his new deal Gordon went back to the time that some reports even went as far as saying that a medical in Germany had been set up for the Scouse star and Liverpool during the Euros, and said: "I spoke to Eddie Howe a lot over the summer. He had honest conversations with me about the speculation and nonsense.

"He didn’t want it to affect me for too long. It was about cutting that down. Three or four bad games after the summer is not the worst."
Gordon's omission by former England boss Gareth Southgate also prompted plenty of questions from fans of a variety of clubs and pundits over the Euros. After staying on the bench for the majority of the tournament, Gordon admits it affected his early season Toon form.
He said: "Those opening games I didn’t feel fit. Mentally I went from a season, to on the bench not getting minutes and away from the family for 6-7 weeks and that can be a lonely situation.
Howe had made things abundantly clear on the June PSR health check deadline chaos last week when saying he didn't really want to sell any of his stars. But when discussing the sales of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, he insisted there had been no bid on the table for Gordon.
The Newcastle head coach told Chronicle Live: "The only two deals we had on the table were for Elliot and Yankuba at that time. We had to make a decision based on finances.
"We couldn't break profit and sustainability rules and get a points deduction. We didn't want to sell Yankuba or Elliot but we had to make a decision."
