Arne Slot is not expecting Unai Emery to change his tactical approach for Aston Villa's visit to Anfield on Saturday.

Villa have lost their last three games in all competitions, while the Reds have won 14 of their first 16 matches this season. Emery's side were ahead of Liverpool at the top of the Champions League league phase table before matchweek four, but they lost 1-0 to Club Brugge after Bayer Leverkusen fell to a 4-0 defeat on Merseyside.

Slot was asked in his pre-match press conference if he has found it challenging to prepare to face Villa because of the different options Emery has at his disposal, like playing Ezri Konsa at right-back or centre-back and picking between a few midfield and forward options.

"If you ask me now, it’s not that difficult because Unai Emery has played in a similar style for years now," Slot responded. "At Aston Villa it is almost always the same formation but it sometimes depends on a player that can have different characteristics.

"His style of play and idea about football has been the same always. That was also the same for Xabi Alonso, who we studied for … I don’t know how many games, but not once did he play Boniface as a left winger and without a number nine. He didn’t do that before we played them.

"That is also a compliment. Most managers feel that we have a good team, so they feel like they have to change their game plan. If you asked me now, ‘do you think Unai will change a lot?’ I would not expect that because he never did this against City or Liverpool in the past few years.

"In terms of personnel, he could change it. He has different options at the full-back and on the wings. But it has always been a 4-4-2 that he has been playing for many years now."
